Steve9347
QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2012 -> 04:34 PM) This cannot be true. Please tell me it's not true. Sale is 3-1, with 28 ks in 32 IP, and they do this. WTF.
Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 4, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) *just stated on Boers & Bernstein, by the way. Tender elbow for Sale. Available to close on Monday. Not sure if this temporary or not.
fathom
Yep, it's true. Sale has tender elbow, and Sox don't want to jeopardize his future I guess. Kenny Williams, please leave
chw42
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 4, 2012 -> 04:35 PM) Sale is 3-1, with 28 ks in 32 IP, and they do this. WTF. He must have told them his arm wasn't feeling too hot. His velocity was down in his last start.
GoSox05
@MDGonzales Sale to close, tender elbow
fathom
It's just great they completely wasted a year of Sale's development last year. Who didn't project some type of injury this season due to not preparing him last year?
SnB
Just put him on the DL - this accomplishes nothing.
Steve9347
Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales Coop said Sox didn't want to take risk on Sale's future. 2m Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales Sale available to close Monday 7m Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales Axelrod to take spot in rotation Sunday, sox emphasize Sale not hurt 7m Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales Sale to close, tender elbow
Steve9347
QUOTE (SnB @ May 4, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) Just put him on the DL - this accomplishes nothing. Yeah, exactly. This is really dumb. "His elbow's f***ed up, so he's going to pitch as closer". That's South Side baseball for you.
fathom
QUOTE (SnB @ May 4, 2012 -> 09:36 PM) Just put him on the DL - this accomplishes nothing. Agreed, but now you will never hear me say that Beckham/Morel/Viciedo shouldn't be playing every day. With Sale closing, KW better be doing everything he can to trade Thornton. jeffro2525
What a shocking turn of events. I have no problem with this if the staff had real concerns about his future. No use risking his future if they had ANY doubts about his health.

And you see why I predicted 72 wins because of the likelihood that the starting pitching staff can't stay healthy.
fathom
Well, most importantly, hopefully it's not serious for Sale and he's able to recover. If this ends up being a TJS situation, this organization is completely screwed.

fathom
Funny thing is when I saw this thread, I thought for sure someone bumped it from before 2011.
chw42
I was just looking at Sale's mechanics earlier in the year, trying to see if his inverted W was going to be an issue. Not all inverted W's cause issues in pitchers, it's the pitching arm being horizontal (and not vertical) when the front foot is already planted that can overload the shoulder/elbow and cause injuries. I didn't come up with anything too conclusive, but it looks like his mechanics will cause arm issues.
