Time and mainstream acceptance.

Indeed. I just happen to believe that Christianity is a cult but what do I know.

"Hey everyone here who doesn't believe in my religion. I recommend you come to one of our workshops where we try to brainwash convert you into our way of thinking!" Seems cultish to me.

In some ways Christianity is a cult, but really I guess I don't know how to back that up - Eh, it is what it is. Like I said, you have your beliefs and I have mine. I take back my statement, I guess I shouldn't try to fight a battle I'm not equipped to fight.

He never said that. he said there's a program that answers some of our simple beliefs. And if anybody wants some answers to some simple questions about God, go to the meeting.

I'm honestly not trying to pick a fight. I'm just tired of seeing the "My religion is awesome and all of the other ones are dumb" line of thinking.

You don't have to take anything back. You said it fine. This is a message board and there will be violent range of opinions.

I often forget the answers to simple questions, as well.

Charles Stanley does a nice job on his tapes of explaining some mysteries like why does a good God allow bad things to happen.

He had an issue with Mormonism. I'm thinking he's OK with most of the other religions.

He was recommending non-believers to attend this work shop. I'm a non-believer. Why would I ever want to go to something like that? Looks like a thinly veiled way to convert.

Curious, would you go to an Islam work shop at the local mosque to be taught by Islamic clerics about their core beliefs?

Cause he was responding to people who had answers to some simple questions.

Sure I'd go to the Islam workshop if I had time. Why not? Especially if there were some hot chicks there.

And I never said "all of the other ones are dumb". I pointed out Mormonism because it was mentioned as being the same as my religion. I don't believe God had sex with spirits to create all of us, I don't believe the virgin Mary got pregnant with Jesus by God. Those are Mormon teachings that go against what I believe. That was my only point, is that I don't want to be associated with Mormonism. I may have went a little far calling them a "cult", considering I can't back up my opinion.

There are plenty of religions that have the same ideas, I wouldn't say they are all correct (again, in line with what I believe), but they are close enough.

Place yourself in the shoes of a Mormon. Wouldn't you be pretty offended by his post?

Probably. I haven't studied Mormonism that closely. Doesn't it allow you to have several wives? That's against the law.

It was a joke. You ever watch TV? Stuff about hot chicks appears every other commercial.

I would go to seminars on other religions though, if I had time. Why not? I don't have to join.

Right, and again, I don't have the facts so I apologize for "offending any Mormons". I wasn't trying to convert anyone. All I was saying is, if you want answers on why Christians believe what we believe, there it is. Listen or go to something and discredit it all, I was just mentioning it.

Does anyone here worship Satan?

No, but I worship Dana Carvey for those Church Lady skits with the word Satan on SNL. I still can't get over jordan calling me a "vile" human for cracking a little joke. My gosh.

That just seems evangelical.

There are certain characteristics that are usually related to cults: charismatic leader, leader has "divine" authority, leader possesses power over followers, group considers itself special/unique/chosen, strong disdain for questioning, mistrust of outsiders, difficulty to leave.

I think Jews ~2000 years ago would have considered early Christianity a cult like Christians considered early (or even modern) Mormonism a cult.

I, like George Carlin, worship Joe Pesci. Because he seems like a guy who can "get things done."
