Texsox
Ironic that I am showing Soylent Green in my class this week. Maybe I will print out that article and have them write a response on Friday while my sub is here.

RockRaines
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 7, 2012 -> 08:08 PM) Some eat it like a steak though. Here's a couple articles about the whole thing. http://www.babble.com/pregnancy/pregnancy-...lacenta-eating/ http://www.salon.com/2010/06/24/placenta_for_dinner/ Yeah you can grill it, fry it, etc. Its incredibly nutrient rich and has been done for centuries. Its not some weird fad.

I will say this though - after watching about a million A Baby Story and Baby's First Day shows (think House Hunters for soon-to-be-parents), there is something very strange that comes out of women immediately before and after birth. Like natural urges start to take over and women stop being normal humans for a while. It's pretty fascinating. Steve9347
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 8, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) If there was no God, what is the point of all this? Even being here? Are we just going to die and bam, that's that, thanks for playing 60-100 years? I think God is amazed at how low his creations can go ... all the horrible murders throughout history, and bizarre things humans do, but I do think he exists. I think everyone can believe what they want. I don't see what's wrong with enjoying our 60-100 years, if lucky, and that being that. Given I don't believe in fairy tales and magic and snakes talking and immaculate conceptions, I'll go with the scientific approach. Why not just go crazy if this all means nothing? If you are going to just be done when you die and not cognizant of anything in heaven, then why not be reckless pursuers of debauchery? Babies and birthing are weird dude, some people give birth in pools, upside down, in dirt, sand, beds, standing up, sitting down, people are f***ed in the head when it comes to kids. Soxbadger
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 8, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) Do you guys live your lives wildly then? Why not just go crazy if this all means nothing? If you are going to just be done when you die and not cognizant of anything in heaven, then why not be reckless pursuers of debauchery? Depends on who you judge me against, but I am a pretty reckless pursuer of debauchery in the vein of Voltaire (once a philosopher, twice a pervert.) The reason I dont go out and just take advantage of everyone and do whatever I want, is because of worldly consequences. If I was to do something terrible, I would have to face my parents and other people I care about. I also would have to deal with my name being associated with those crimes. I have talent, I try and use my talent to make the world a better place for other people. Not because of heaven or hell or any worry, but because I am happier helping people than hurting people. If there is a god, and that is not enough, if he is going to get pissed off about whether I followed the "right" religion, or whether I followed stupid rules that have no impact on other people, then what type of a nonsensical god is that? I mean for god to exist, it must be both omnipotent and omniscient, therefore if god is omniscient, nothing I can do is not in gods plan as god already knows what I am going to do. Therefore I never have choice and nothing really matters anyway, because god already knew it was going to happen. It just is a free pass for everyone to do whatever they want without consequence, I just cant believe that is true.

Soxbadger
Life is easier when you believe that there is something more. One day in the future people will look back at some of my beliefs and wonder how could someone so intelligent be so wrong, its just like how did Aristotle think that the planets revolved around Earth. We are limited by the time and science we have available to us. I truly doubt that the Jews who wrote the Old Testament 5000-7000 years ago, would believe the same things if they lived in today's society. They wouldnt draw the conclusion that eating dairy and meat causes sickness, they probably would allow people to eat shellfish. And that is not even getting into the New Testament completely jumping the shark and changing everything to rectify the fact that the Jews were still under Roman control. New Testament, none of it is real, none of it happened. The Bible Unearthed was an interesting pop-archeology book by a couple of ancient middle east scholars. They examined the history behind the historical OT texts and really got into the history of the Jewish peoples. It gave me a bigger appreciation for the cultural aspects.
