Thank God.

Yeah, because:

1. We're in a great place to trade for a replacement with all the talent we have to give up.

2. Orlando Hudson is a great long-term option at 3b for a first place team.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 11:34 AM)
Imagine how much better our lineup would be this year and moving forward if he could man the hot corner adequately...

but I doubt that he can, especially midseason and all that

Forget it. He was awful there. The kid is a 1B/DH in waiting.

Thank God.

Give me a break.

Morel could hit as well as Hudson has and be 10 times better defensively.

Morel haters are in good shape, though. He won't be back this year. This is Crede II.

I have not seen any evidence of Morel being a capable MLB hitter save one hot streak people were foolish to buy into.

What evidence have you seen that the Sox are in good position to trade for a 3b?

I dont think we'll make a trade, but obviously we could get a 3b with a deal involving some of our youth.

Just because some publications rank us whatever, it doesn't mean we dont have young players that would interest a club.

Young players who would interest some clubs? Sure. Appropriate payment for a legit player who might be available? Unless the Sox are willing to go after Danny Valencia or Ian Stewart, there aren't many teams who are both out of the race and have a 3b who might be available. If the Sox are willing to hurt their big league roster elsewhere, fine, Chase Headley might well be available if you structured a deal around Addison. You might well be able to pull off Youkilis with something centered around Thornton. But there ain't a big time value guy sitting at AA we could deal that would interest most teams.

Denver Post speculated today (6/10) that Padres will offer 3B Chase Headley. Another possibility for a more journeyman 3B, and less expensive in trade, is Rockies infielder Cris Nelson. Tulo is coming off DL in a week or so, Nelson would be available. He is okay defensively, can hit a little bit. An upgrade over what we have now at third.

If we make a move for someone like that, we'll probably wait a couple more weeks to see if Hudson heats up.

NL to AL conversion is always scary now.

They're going to go for a bigger upgrade than Nelson, a name player like Youkilis. Its always been KW's style to go big, except for Geoff Blum in 2005.

Not to mention the Indians have the same problem at 3B if Chisenhall doesn't hit or Hannahan can't come back. The scarier thing would be if they added Quentin to go with Sizemore and Choo...if they could actually stay healthy and productive. Whether they can afford to add $3-4 million in salary after taking on Jimenez's deal is another question, plus dumping more prospects when they're still in building mode.

I think the Padres will make him available but he won't come cheap. He's under their control for several years cheaply, so they don't need to move him.

The Denver Post article mentioned Headley specifically because the Padres have several prospects ready for the majors, apparently including a hot third base prospect at AAA. Maybe Headley wouldn't be so pricey.

Headley's also played LF in the past, so 3B isn't his only position.

Here's an example of Bleacherreport pushing the "Padres shouldn't trade him" side.
