A real question is....how did he only finish 22nd in MVP voting in 2006?

.313 BA, 35 HR, 113 RBI

EDIT: Clearly didn't help that Dye had .315/44/120 and Thome had .288/42/109

How did THAT team not win? lol

They did, 90 times, and they were in a very tough division that year. Then in the 2nd half the pitching fell apart.

Paulie has a .420 BABIP. I think it's safe to say he won't hit .381 this year, but we should all prepare for the inevitable.

I agree that Paulie is not going to bat .381 nor slug .633 this season, but it isn't just a fluke that he's putting up these insane numbers this season.

Paulie has always been an elite fastball hitter.

Guy batting before Paulie with an OBP near .400 = Paulie sees more fastballs

Guy batting after Paulie with a SLG near .500 = Paulie sees more fastballs

Pitchers, especially righties, really don't want to walk Paulie when there's usually a guy on base (who probably walked himself) and AJ lurking on deck. They aren't going to throw him as many off-speed pitches

If Dunn and AJ continue to produce at the same rates, which isn't too much of a stretch, then Paulie will continue to see a lot of fastballs at the plate.

I heard even teams in other sports are retiring his number.

There's a kid on my son's baseball team that wears #14, and I started yelling at him through the fence last night that he isn't fit to wear that number. His dad came over to see what was going on, and I simply said, "Never forget." He quickly bowed his head and said he would rip the number 1 off the kid's jersey later that night.

They should lock up the dad for even allowing it to happen.
