Baron
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 10:25 PM) Teams do this all the time, guys...the world doesn't end if a guy comes in and gives up 4 runs. He's still a professional pitcher...he's not going to give up like 100 runs in one inning. And if he does, well, it still costs the same as Gavin Floyd and Phil Humber's losses do everytime they pitch. Well thats just plain not true. Gavin goes through these streaks all the time. Sometimes he is just plain nasty. He doesnt pitch like this everytime.

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities that a guy could come in and put up a 4.2 era over the course of a year.

I'm talking about start after start after start for an extended period of time. As it is, we're already going with a High A pitcher in Quintana. We can survive another, perhaps, but it puts so much stress on Sale/Peavy to continue to perform. Mr. Danks has to be a 2/3 guy and not a 5 from now on, that's for sure. Sure but the guys who you could throw in there could struggle alot.

No, there are teams that just throw guys out there and pitch for awhile. The Tigers certainly have done it plenty over the course of the last 3 years or so. What exactly are they doing for us this year that couldn't be done by replacements?

CaliSoxFanViaSWside
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) We beat the World Series champs on the road with a Colombian 95% of SoxTalk didn't know about 4 months ago and yet we've spent most of the game thread trading Alexei Ramirez and Dayan Viciedo. If JR hadn't been burned by 2009-2011, there might be some willingness to spend on a Wright or Greinke. For now, they're too hot to the touch. Besides, the Mets aren't doing to lose both Wright and Reyes, their attendance is already falling big-time. They have to keep a homegrown star in the fold. As for Greinke, the price is Viciedo and Reed, bargained down to Viciedo and Jones or Mitchell. Nothing less. Crazy talk to give up Viciedo for a rental and throwing in Reed and/or Jones to boot ? I'll put my money on Danks, Floyd and Humber .
iamshack
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) So you expect Gavin to keep pitching like he has been? Honestly, I have no idea what to expect from Gavin...Trust me, I certainly hope he improves as much as anyone. I've seen a lot of posters express though that his hot streak should be coming soon...I am inclined to believe he already had it, actually. I believe this is around the time he normally gets into a grove. We shall see.
caulfield12
More evidence tonight why Peralta should be back to playing 3B and not SS. But with Cabrera and Fielder ensconced on the corners, they have 4 DH's already if you include Victor Martinez. The problem is that 3 of them are playing the infield. But with Cabrera and Fielder ensconced on the corners, they have 4 DH's already if you include Victor Martinez. The problem is that 3 of them are playing the infield. To me, the answer is to get a defensive ss and replace Peralta. They don't need his bat at the expense of that glove at one of the most important positions on the diamond. They should acquire two defensive studs to play ss and second, and when they get Austin Jackson and Avila back, they can probably live with what they get from the two fattys at the corners and Mr Young in left. They already have Jackson back. The next question is how long they can be patient with Boesch. Q. Berry played very well in Jackson's absence. I know Boesch failed in the 8th with runners at 1st and 2nd and one out. Now that Inge is gone, he's probably the favorite whipping boy for the local media.
