At worst it was malicious intent from Cooke (which would shock no one), and at best it was a wildly irresponsible play. There was no reason his skate should have lifted to where it did. It could have been an accident, but because of who it was and what I know he's capable of, I suspect it was on purpose. Obviously he wasn't trying to end his season, but I do believe he was being the usual gutless, spineless, dirty player that he always has been. And of course when Neil tried challenging him later he declined and fell like a rag doll the second Neil's gloves got to his face. He's such a p****. He is everything that is wrong with hockey.

I've played hockey my entire life. Cooke went towards the boards awkwardly and his skate came up, and he was simply putting it down to keep his balance. It was a freak injury, nothing more. Reputation or not, that was CLEARLY a complete accident and not something any hockey player intentionally does - you are helpless when your feet are off the ice.

Agreed. I know it's Cooke, but I've watched the play numerous times and can't see any intent there. He was off balance going into the boards tied up with him, and putting his skate back down towards the ice. This looks like a freak, unfortunate injury.

Here it is in normal speed, with a replay at the end with the better angle:

Yeah, I mean if you tried to do that a few times it would be very hard. Freak accident.

Karlsson recalled from Rockford. Crawford isn't at morning skate. No word on if injury/illness or something else. Stay tuned. Hopefully nothing too serious.

Best-case scenario: flu

Worst-case scenario: He got injured when a Duck crashed into the net in the 3rd period Tuesday. (And no penalty was called after the Hawks got whistled for the same thing)

That's because he was pushed in very hard by IIRC Seabrook. It was actually a good no-call. I think you go to the games so you likely didn't see a good replay, but it was the right call.

Agreed. Foley even apologized to the refs after seeing the replay.

Gotcha, thanks. Yeah, they didn't show a replay. I kind of assumed they let it go because of a push, but when the mob around you demands justice, it's hard to give the refs the benefit of the doubt!

It's cool to see the captain stand up for himself, but we don't need something to get broken on a flailing punch, so no more fighting please #19. That's what Bollig and Mayers are on the roster for.

Fighting in hockey is already moronic, but to have your franchise player getting punched in the head after missing time last year with a concussion? These guys are all f***ing idiots.

Steve - fighting in hockey has its place. But that can be a topic for another time.

However, the whole time that was going on I was saying "please fall please fall please fall please fall" so it would end. Maybe the most nervous 15 or so seconds in a long time. Not only the concussion issue, but he was also taking on 12 foot Joe Thornton. I may as well have been out there.

Not NHL, but watching some of Minn and Wisconsin from Soldier Field, wish they could set stuff up better to see crowd on TV. Can't get a sense of environment. Thats for any hockey game moved to big stadiums.

It was a pretty good environment. The Minnesota/Wisconsin game definitely had more fans than the ND/Miami game, though Miami had a pretty good contingent. It appeared a lot of fans came for only one of the games, which is understandable.

there isnt a crowd to show. place is probably 4/5ths empty.

Wrong. Overall attendance was 52,000+ for the day. It was actually a pretty good amount of people there, especially for the second game. I didn't know what to expect going in, but it was a pretty good turnout, actually more than I expected. There were a ton of fans from all 4 teams involved, but a real nice amount of just plain old hockey fans with no allegiance there to take it in. You had a Hawks game going on at the same time, which took some away as well.

Definitely something I hope they do again, or perhaps it serves as a test-run for the Hawks taking the next Winter Classic there, which would be 10x better than Wrigley as far as # of tickets available, sightlines, parking/tailgating, amenities, etc.
