RockRaines
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 09:08 AM) apparently Rask was pointing a lot of fingers in postgame Any more info on this?
IlliniKrush
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 03:02 PM) I adored that moment with JR. Not nearly as much as you much have enjoyed the atmosphere at the UC last night. I hate/love you. I hate/love you too. It was f***ing epic, and draining. On my walk home, I just kept thinking, what if they lost at that same point in overtime? This whole crowd would be so much different right now, and it would have been the loneliest, most depressed walk home in a while. I told people at second OT intermission, this is going to be one of the most epic wins ever, or one of the worst, gut-punching losses ever, and there's no other option, and no way to stop it at this point. Probably would have thrown a bottle through Rock's apartment window, too (yours has the Hawks flagon the balcony, eh?) It's worth it, trust me. You'll have to do it with me sometime, it's a great way to take in a game. It's an experience. You can see perfectly fine (as you aren't the person that'll be OMG I CAN'T SEE THE LITTLE PUCK FROM HERE!), and you get to chat it up with everyone around you, mostly die-hards as well. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) Any more info on this? "We had the game," Rask said. "We were up 3-1 in the third, and then a terrible turnover leads to a second goal, a tough bounce leads to the tying goal, and we just gave it away. We've got to be better than that. We definitely didn't play our best game. We turned the puck over too many times and didn't manage the pucks good enough." "Especially going into the third overtime, you're not going to make any fancy backdoor plays," Rask said. "Especially in the last overtime, we were forcing the play a little too much. They just shot the puck, found its way in, and they won the game." Edited June 14, 2013 by IlliniKrush

Don't forget that 2010 also had Versteeg and his awesome rapping. I don't even like rap but Versteeg doing it stayed with me.

zenryan
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 04:51 PM) Wow. Called out a few guys there. He's right though and I dont think its really a big deal though. Seemed like the B's were trying too much for the easy/sure goal instead of throwing pucks at the net and trying for a tip. Also probably a little frustration by Rask for being left out to dry on 2 goals and having no chance at the two weird deflected goals. Really besides the GWG, I dont remember many shots from the point by either team in the OT sessions. I do remember the Jagr deflection off the post. But with physical and mental fatigue, you'd think that would be the easiest way to find the back of the net.

But with physical and mental fatigue, you'd think that would be the easiest way to find the back of the net. He's right...but that's something you keep internal/say it a bit differently. The quotes actually don't do it justice, hearing it, the tone was not very good. Look, I get it, you're frustrated as f*** because you shut down the Hawks and played pretty great, especially in OT, and no one could score on the 87 chances they had in OT...but that's not how you handle it. It's not just my opinion...Melrose, Weekes, Pang had the same thoughts. Good observation in your last paragraph...you are right, anything at the net is good, but from watching a lot of OT hockey, and especially my vantage point last night (able to see lanes really well), the last thing you can afford to do in OT is throw it into some guy's shin pads for a breakaway/odd man rush the other way. So in OT a lot of guys are making the safe play, chip it back down the corner, unless you see that you have a lane. It's not a perfect science, but that's the thought process. There were a ton of times last night on both sides where I thought they made good reads not to just throw something that was very likely to get blocked. Yes you are trying to win the game with a shot...but you're better off making the safe play and not losing the game. You see that all over the ice in OT. I don't want to go all Hawk Harrelson on this, but a lot of times, you'll have the other team make the mistake to beat themselves first. Just don't lose the game with a decision. The risk factor is lowered. Edited June 14, 2013 by IlliniKrush
zenryan
I totally get what youre saying. There was a reason why not many shots were taken from the point and since you were there, you def could see the shooting lanes, or lack of, better than what we could see on tv. Cant just throw shots willy-nilly at the net if nothing is there like you said. Hate to bring up the NBCSN angle again but after getting the largest Game 1 audience since 1997 and it being a game for the ages, I'm guessing NBC is getting a major hard-on for what should be some really good ratings for the cable outlet. southsideirish71
Ah Julien. He likes to whine about embellishing however his team likes to dive. Funny documentary on Marchand and the Bruins poetic license with diving. Claude mouths off about this and then his players start dropping like flies. I figure he is trying to set the refs up for the next performance. Edited June 14, 2013 by southsideirish71

The ratings will go down, I'm sure. But my guess is the actual # of people watching the game won't go down too much. What I mean is that a lot of people will end up making other plans (friends, bar, etc) to see the game. But households getting it will obviously go down. Game 1 ratings were through the freaking roof across the country. I think I have this right...I read that Game 1 was up 50% in Chicago compared to Game 1 2010 vs Philly. That seems crazy to me. I don't know where the rest of the bandwagon was hiding, I pretty much thought everyone and their mother was on board at that point.

Game 1 against Philly was the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, and I think that had an effect. From what I could find, in 2010 game 1 had a 16.8 local rating, while game 2 had a 25.1 rating. Game 1 vs. Boston had a 25.1 local rating. In 2010, games 1 & 2 were NBC, then 3 & 4 were Versus.

Steve9347
It's amazing how these series can make one hate a team. I love the Blackhawks, but I can see if my team has players that are diving or "embellishing". I don't know that I've seen a Blackhawks player all season get an unsportsmanlike diving penalty. They play hard, they go hard.

If they have a dirty hit, its their players just protecting themselves. Edited June 14, 2013 by southsideirish71
