Impossible to tell either way. Trading for Greinke strengthens an already good rotation, but creates a hole in an already questionable lineup.

A hole that can be patched with Youk at third. Finding a LF'er would be a small additional cost to pay for acquiring Greinke. Greinke makes the rotation a potential championship one, imo.

I just dont believe finding a LFer is easy as you think it is, thats all. I like Danks, but I am certainly not ready for that. And knowing that Lillibridge is waiting behind him bothers me

They played Dunn in LF in the NL parks. Heck, Dan Johnson is killing the ball at Charlotte, he absolutely deserves a chance with the way the offense has been performing. Conor Jackson too.

AAA numbers for guys like Jackson and Johnson are meaningless.

Dan Johnson hasn't hit over .200 in the major leagues in 5 years. Josh Fields is hitting .331 in AAA after hitting .365 in AAA last year before stinking up the joint in Japan. Why don't they just pick him up? He can play LF equally as bad as he plays 3B.

Youk's contract, FWIW:

12:$12M, 13:$13M club option ($1M buyout)

I think he winds up in the NL. While its always exciting the Sox may upgrade from a guy like the ODog, if Youkilis doesn't come here, even if the price was close to nothing, its really not a big deal.

Its either us(more likely) or the Dodgers at this point.

Who would replace Viciedo? The kid has shown some flashes of being a real good player, but I might agree a Grienke, if signed to a long term commitment with the Sox would be ok with me. Maybe Jordan Danks can play in LF, or we go after Quentin and get him back from SD.

I actually think our system is most able to replace LF'er over any other position. Danks would be MLB caliber at the least for right now, and Jared Mitchell could be ready next season.

Yes, deplete the offense by trading away a young power hitter.

This remains key though.

I still think Josh Fields would help, and he would not cost much if anything. Sox should not be hung up on defensive shortcomings from 3-4 yrs ago. At least scout him to see if he has improved. At least he can hit more than a little bit.

You say that as if you know that the White Sox haven't scouted him and every other 3B they can imagine getting their hands on. I have a feeling they have invested more time and scouting talent into this than we have behind our keyboards.

The last thing the Brewers need is a power hitting corner outfielder. If they trade Greinke, they will want pitching back.

Great point, the first poster considering the needs of the Brewers

The interesting thing to me is that Conor Jackson has hardly ever hit poorly at the MLB level. Never quite had the ideal power numbers and AFAIK is not a good defender, but his MLB hitting stats are really pretty nice. IIRC his MLB career was cut very short by an illness.

I think the Red Sox throw that out there to try to get others involved. I still think Pittsburgh and Arizona are possibilites since the cost shouldn't be much. I think all offers being the same, they would prefer to have Youkilis on a team that is not an AL playoff contender just in case he rediscovers his performance.

I'd love the Sox to upgrade wherever they can, and even bad Youk is probably an upgrade at 3b, but I won't be bummed out if he winds up somewhere else.
