southsider2k5
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) I just hope Gar/Pax at least made a call to Orlando. We won't know if they did if it never went anywhere, but I feel like we couldn't have in good conscience not at least checked on a price. Something tells me that if Dwight played a year in Chicago, he wouldn't want to leave anymore. That is my feeling too. I know not many people have wanted to come play for the Bulls, but once they get here, they don't want to leave.

RZZZA
I think it's a strong idication, if they're asking him for his roster input, that the Bulls intend to re-sign him to a long contract. That sentence should abed the rumors that the Bulls don't intend to retain Thibs' services. It should also give you a peek into the mindset of not only the FO, but Thibs himself. He obviously thinks (again like I do) this this core is a good core and can contend for a title.
bmags
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 07:03 PM) That the Bulls need a new coach? Yes it does. Thibs isnt being objective here, he is being loyal and it will hurt the Bulls. Jesus christ, the bulls need a new coach because he likes the players on his team? The team that he has led to the best record in the east for 2+ years and the conference finals for 1? I know it's hard to watch other teams move and shake while the bulls do not, but this year was f***ed. Just deal with it. Getting howard would not do anything for next year, our roster might be so gutted to do that we wouldn't even make the playoffs. Especially if Howard decides not to give a s***, which is not out of the realm of possibility. Plus it won't hurt the bulls at all, the GM shouldn't listen to the coaches input on roster decisisons. This is just a colorful off-season anecdote. That it leaked is just media fluff.
Soxbadger
Its not just about that, I have many other reasons I do not think Thibs is the best coach for the Bulls. This was just merely one more reason to put in the bucket. And Im fully aware the Bulls finished 1st the last 2 seasons, that doesnt mean Thibs is a good coach. Plenty of teams win a ton of games with coaches that are actually holding them back. I love Thibs as an assistant, just not as a HC.

RZZZA
Lol, jesus. We're a few years removed from being a .500 team with Vinnie D-umbass as our coach. Now we have an elite team that wins 1st seed every year, with the NBA coach of the year that all our players love, and some fans still aren't satisfied with any of it and want to blow it all up? Why do people not realize that making moves just for the sake of making moves is not guaranteed to make us any better? Derrick Rose ACL 5 game loss to Heat 0 NBA Finals Fly in the face of what results? Since when is finishing 1st in the regular season a "good result", when the team doesnt even play to seed in the playoffs. Where I come from that is called a disappointing result. Coach of the Year, who cares. Sam Mitchell won coach of the year in 2007, he was fired in 2008. Coach of the Year is a popularity contest award, its like saying that someone who won the Gold Glove is the best fielder. They won the Gold Glove!!! RZZZA
He's a new HC, new coaches have growing pains just like rookie players do. Results speak for themselves, the players love the coach and play well for him. No we didn't win the championship (yet), but that doesnt mean we should take panic moves and fire Thibs and blow up our team. They're panic moves, that's all they are. Why do people not realize that making moves just for the sake of making moves is not guaranteed to make us any better? Getting the #1 seed twice doesn't really do anything for you as we've learned the last two years. Hell, the Cavaliers did that too. "Blow it up" might be a bit much, but 2012-2013 is pretty much a lost year with Rose's injury and it would be prohibitively expensive to keep the entire roster together. They have to start making some decisions on who to keep and who to get rid of. They also have to find some way to upgrade the SG position if they want to have any shot against the other contenders. If you're going to keep playing retread veterans at the position, it puts a ton of pressure on Rose to be super-human since we've seen the frontcourt isn't exactly going to pick up the scoring slack. WHarris1
I have no issue with Thibs. It's my distrust in the Bulls front office and the bumbling tandem of GarPax that I don't have faith in going forward. What moves are they going to make to align the Bulls with teams like the Heat who will still continue to have 3 star players and championship experience going forward? We ain't winning a ring with Rose Deng Boozer Noah and a scrappy hard nosed defensive bench. We had our best chance at that and it's gone. And I don't wanna hear about any bulls*** "20XX plan" or that s*** like KC Johnson has started spewing. I have zero faith in the Bulls ability to attract upper echelon free agents. And the FO is well aware of what they have to do. They just aren't in any rush to do it. The fans are free to make panic moves, the FO of a professionaol basketball franchise has to tread more carefully. While you and others may think that a #1 seed doesn't mean anything, it is actually a tangible positive affirmation that this team was an elite contender. You don't play that well, that consistent, that disciplined for that long without being a legit contender.
Soxbadger
Its not panic, panic would be if the Bulls went to the ECF and lost to the Heat in 7 and were blowing up the roster. Its being realistic. Rose tore his ACL, this is not a good thing. The way the Bulls roster is constructed there are major cap issues on the horizon. If the Bulls want to do something they are going to have to start planning ahead. They cant just go into every off-season and try and make moves ad hoc. That just doesnt work. People keep saying "results speak for themselves", but the Bulls have 0 NBA finals. Not 1, not 2, 0. If you are satisfied with great regular seasons and losing in the playoffs, then those are great results. If you dont care about the regular season and want playoff wins, those are terrible results. So the results do speak for themselves, just not in the way you think.
