southsider2k5
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 08:58 AM) Yeah, I think if he gets that kind of zone on a consistent basis his numbers are completely different than they currently are. He clearly benefited from the huge zone, more so than most pitchers would, IMO. Part of that could be if you know the ump is giving you six inches off of the plate, why would you throw it over the plate. He called the curve off of the dish all night long, so he kept going there. balfanman
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 07:20 AM) I always think that helps the Sox, since most of their hitters swing at everything anyway. Especially love to see a huge strike zone against the Red Sox and Yankees, since their hitters all seem to want to see 6+ pitches every time up to the plate. Could we pay last nights home plate ump to be the home plate ump for every game of the Yankee series? Seriously though, if the above qoute by HH is true, would this not be a better indicator of series success than most? Does anyone have any idea of who the umpires are for the Yankee series and if they have big or small strike zones? Of course the Yankees probably have an influence on which crew gets assigned to their games (not in teal).

He called the curve off of the dish all night long, so he kept going there. Oh for sure...I'm not faulting him for taking advantage of it. I'm just saying that I think with Gavin's arsenal, and the difficulty level of getting that curveball over on a consistent basis, if you're getting a lower zone and a zone off the corners, that is a huge advantage, but in the number of pitches the umpire is calling and the psychological effect on the hitters. bjm676
I read that there were Dodger and Blue Jay scouts in attendance watching Floyd. Would you part with him during this current good streak?

Andy the Clown
I read that there were Dodger and Blue Jay scouts in attendance watching Floyd. Would you part with him during this current good streak? If the Sox get a grade A prospect in return, then absolutely.

Not until Danks, or at least Humber, is back. I don't think there's anybody to take his place right now.

Would you part with him during this current good streak? Depends on the health of one John Danks and Phil Humber. If those guys are ready soon, I'd be fine with it. I don't see us having a chance of winning the division if we depend on Quintana, Axelrod, and another minor leaguer.

Also, Sale and Quintana may not last the full season due to innings limits
