I still want Liriano more than Greinke or JJ.

Well, depending on the price, I think JJ is the clear winner in that group.

Any of the three would be a huge improvement for the Sox.

Also, didn't see it in here (might have missed it), but White Sox scouts were at the Brewers/Phillies game yesterday. But Greinke wasn't pitching yesterday, so... anyone else on those squads we might be looking at?

Juan Pierre?

Juan Pierre?

Don't even joke about that!!

His stuff isn't the problem so much...it's the constant injuries.

Liriano belongs in the same boat.

Yup, and combined with Grienke's depression/anxiety issues I put Johnson as the best pitcher to acquire.

That said, if you include price, Liriano is probably the smartest one to go after.

Yeah, all three have some major flaws. But, again, they would be a huge + over Phil Humber.

I heard the Phillies might trade Doc or Lee, so they can sign Hamels to a extension.

Why would Greinke cost that much more than Dempster?

It's only one year of Floyd at $9.5 million.

That's not exactly a huge bargain.

As we all know, relievers, even closers....can be overrated in terms of their value. (See Santos, Sergio).

Delgado would be under team control for 5 years

Look at it this way, would you have rather Viciedo/Reed or Delgado? Because clearly, Greinke's a better pitcher than Dempster, results over the last two months notwithstanding.

According to Marty, Viciedo's easily replaceable, whereas young starting pitching under team control is not.

For example, would Viciedo/Reed get us Infante/Sanchez? Maybe, maybe not.

Would the Tigers rather keep Turner than have Viciedo/Reed? Obviously, they wouldn't make that move because of the presence of Berry, Boesch, Young, Raburn, Dirks, Worth, etc. And they already have Valverde, Dotel, Benoit and Villarreal.

Bolded is where you derail. For THESE TWO MONTHS, Dempster not only looks like a better pitcher to have, he's also the opposite of a head case. Dempster's value right now in trade is higher than Greinke's, without a doubt.

I might actually agree with you, but KW has a different way of thinking. He probably has coveted Greinke for 10 years...since he was scouted in high school.

And KW has this overwhelming confidence in Cooper to get almost any pitcher that comes in to perform up to his ability.

Plus, there's the fact that Greinke is much more familiar and comfortable with the AL Central than Dempster, who some are saying would be afraid to pitch in the AL for fear of diminishing his FA contract value.
