Hawkins has a double, now at .262.

Good to see. Barnum's been out awhile now - hope they're just being extra cautious.

And another big day for Walker. K rate only thing keeping him from getting a lot more buzz.

Anyone want to start speculating as to the players selected for the AFL?

Would love to see Beck get to go, even though our minor league staff might just as likely want him to shut it down early and start deconstructing his mechanics and getting him on the Allen Thomas conditioning program to shed all that added muscle mass.

Carlos Sanchez, you'd have to think, would be one of the selections. Maybe even Salvador Sanchez. Trayce Thompson, perhaps.

You gotta keep in mind there are only so many players they can take below AA. It's either one or two per team. I bet Rienzo goes. Maybe if someone gets a late season promotion to AA that's a sign that the Sox want that player in the AFL.

I think one of the more interesting debates in our system is how to handle our CF prospects: Mitchell, Thompson and Walker. All three have promise, but also the same major flaw: contact. I know the Sox want all three to stay in CF, but Walker should be moving up soon to High-A where Trayce is playing CF. So how do they decide to proceed with these guys? All move up a level or just move Trayce to RF? Walker is doing well at Low-A, but that should be expected from a college first-round pick.

Also with the glut of raw, toolsy CFs, you gotta imagine one of them goes in some sort deal this season.

I'd play Walker in CF and Thompson at a corner, just because Walker's faster and Thompson's bat and defense are probably best suited to the corners.

If Trayce Thompson could stick in center and play at least average major league defense (like Cespedes), then he'd be MUCH more valuable.

But we can't even be sure they'll move Walker until 2013 anyways...and they'll probably try to push Trayce to BIRM and see how he fares in that monster stadium with more advanced pitching.

I think a good selection for the AFL could be Rienzo, Salvador Sanchez, Saladino, Bellamy, Carlos Sanchez

Real good choices/guesses. All three have real good reasons to go. Walker might also be a good candidate after missing some time this year.

Yeah, good list. Rienzo missed some time, same with Walker, so I can see both of them. Both Sanchez's make sense.

Saladino has some things to prove, but he's still pretty young, so I'm not as sure there, and Bellamy they want to control his innings I'd imagine.

Some other names to consider... Shoemaker is making a case for being an actual prospect, and they want to challenge him, so he could go. Has Nestor Molina gone before? If not, and if he misses significant time, he might go. Santos Rodriguez might go, he's been improving as the year has gone on. Kussmaul or Remenowsky maybe, in the not-sure-if-prospect category of relievers they always seem to send one of. Andy Wilkins has a lot to prove too, he's a possibility.

If I had to guess 6, I'd go; Rienzo, Walker, C Sanchez, S Sanchez, Shoemaker, S Rodriguez.

Mitchell's definitely a 50/50 shot, depending on how his season ends with BIRM.

The more I think about it, would like to push Walker and see how he does against superior or elite competition.

Maybe one of those younger pitching prospects like Johnson, Petricka, Rienzo and 5-10% chance of Beck but they'll probably shut him down.

Santos Rodriguez is a good guess. As long as no KW kids, will be fine with it.

Phegley's played there at least once, right? And was/is it bad memory or did Mitchell play in the AFL in 2009 after he was drafted?

Phegley was in the AFL before. Mitchell made his comeback in the AFL in 2010.
