danman31
I gotta admit, Shoemaker is impressing me. I'm still a doubter because 25 in AA is nothing to write home about, but he is raking.
mgaughan09
DeMichelle continues his tear with 3 more hits. Hawkins with acouple of hits, including a three bagger. Molina threw acouple clean innings. Hopefully just being cautious with it being his first start off the DL Edited July 18, 2012 by northside sawx
fathom
IIRC, didn't the Sox have a chance to take Hunter Morris instead of Wilkins?
mgaughan09
Hawkins now a HR away from the cycle, with atleast another AB. Blair Walters with a very nice outing for WS. What is his prospect status/book on him? Obviously he's had a rough start to high A, but that could be expected with the jump in levels, no? He's been solid at every level before this, and the K numbers aren't bad. Mitchell also continues his slide, big goose egg and the K trifecta... Should we end up trading him this month wed be selling and his lowest value arguably...

mgaughan09
Looking more like it... While his BB #s have substantialy improved - Ks have gotten worse, and thats a big problem for a player who projects as a leadoff hitter. At this point might as well try and turn him into an asset for the big club this year, even if it is just a rental especially with Trayce and Keenyn waiting in the wings

I think a month of baseball may be a little too short to peg him as a streaky hitter....

Wilkins was taken in the 5th round. You can't nitpick like that past the first couple rounds. Besides, I looked up Morris...he was a fourth rounder. I goofed. I read it as Wilkins, not Hawkins. Never mind. Gotta lay off the crack.
oldsox
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) I gotta admit, Shoemaker is impressing me. I'm still a doubter because 25 in AA is nothing to write home about, but he is raking. Now I get it. I finally get it. If you are young and hitting well, we can't promote you. And, if you are old (25 in this case) and hitting well, we can't promote you, even though you (Shoemaker) have hit well every year since being drafted 3 yrs ago. We should call this the "Promotion Window". If one looks at the career stats objectively, Shoemaker should be a much better prospect than Mitchell or anyone else (outfielders) from Kanny on up. But he is a year and a half older than Mitchell, so he is past the Promotion Window. Most people consider Mitchell a better prospect. It helps to be able to run a 4.5 40 and broad jump 26 feet as opposed to being able to hit a line drive in the gap. Of course, I have now jinxed Shoemaker beyond repair. NorthSideSox72
Hawkins doing better so far in Bristol than I thought he would at this point. Molina probably only went 2 IP by design, and he did OK, so that's good to see. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) I gotta admit, Shoemaker is impressing me. I was glad he got promoted, but I figured there was an 80% chance he'd struggle, at least at first, with AA pitching. Apparently not.
