That's awfully optimistic. I don't expect Meyers to hold much value, but what would be the point of them trading for those two? Maybe Heidenreich and someone with a bit more value than Wilkins. The Sox have a history of trading guys soon after a promotion to try and improve the player's value though.

That $3 million buyout will lower the return, plus his salary this year is 11 million, so you're looking at something like $3.5 million in salary alone....it won't be a great prospect if they're taking on all that salary and the buyout as well.

I didn't initially realize the dollars. You can bet the Sox aren't paying the whole salary, but it could be a situation where they give a better prospect to pay less of Myers' contract.

On June 23, 2006, Myers was arrested and charged with assault after witnesses saw him punching his wife, Kim Myers on a downtown Boston street after an argument.[24] The Phillies received criticism from some media members and women's organizations for not benching Myers.[25] Myers took a short leave of absence from the team.[7] During a pre-trial hearing on October 5, 2006, Kim Myers indicated that she did not want her husband prosecuted, and despite the prosecutor's insistence of filing charges, the case was dismissed. The couple has been in marriage counseling since the arrest.[26]

Um, I guess I'll say it because nobody else has. The dude literally punched his wife in the face. I hate women. But c'mon now. I ain't supportin' this dude. This is a terrible transaction.

Maybe she deserved it? /green

I'm gonna guess PTBNL and maybe another consideration considering they haul they just got yesterday

Itll be really interesting to see what we gave up and what his role will be here. Who cares if no one likes him? No one likes AJ.

Well AJ isn't (as far as we know) a domestic abuser. People don't like Myers for the right reasons. People hate AJ because he is an agitator on the baseball diamond.

Except AJ never punched his wife in the face in public...well, not that it even matters whether it was public or private, but it's a whole different animal when you're talking domestic violence versus playing cards in the clubhouse or watching Florida on tv instead of prepping the pitchers.

I think he'll do well as a set-up man. His stuff has been impressive, and his numbers got blown up by one really bad game he had.

One would guess they would demote Reed and take the pressure off him.

Santiago or Septimo...one of them will go, hopefully Hector. Could be Veal, though.

Actually, just for last night, Donnie deserves another chance for nutting up.

#WhiteSox reportedly send Blair Walters @bwalters34 to Houston, according to a tweet by @MoneyMikeEarley

Good catch, but that doesn't mean he's the only piece of the trade. He could be depending on the money involved.

Just goes to show you, KW isn't always a stickler about bringing questionable (at best) character guys into the clubhouse.

It has blown up in the past with the likes of Lofton, Swisher, Cabrera, Javy, C-Lee, Magglio and D'Angelo Jimenez, to name a few.

I'm pretty sure winning with a DV assailant is probably worse than being a fan of a player who used steroids, because the steroids just cheated the team, the fans and the game, but didn't actually injure or hurt another person in the process of abusing them.

Thoughts on Walters being included in this deal?

I don't think of him as much of a prospect, but he's having a nice season. He's been getting hit hard with Winston-Salem, but his K:BB is nice. 24 K to 4 BB in 25.2 innings.

For a rookie closer, he has had a great season. Demote him? WTF.

My personal opinion of the Myers case is simply. I think he and his wife got very drunk, and then somewhere between their last bar stop and the team hotel, they got into a very loud, very public fight.

Both behaved like fools. Again, that’s no excuse. Nothing Kim Myers did should have justified her being hit by her husband. Nothing, nothing, nothing.

In that 2008 interview with Bob Nightengale, both Brett and Kim offered their only detailed explanation of the evening.

Brett Myers: ”They say I dragged my wife by her hair. Never happened.

They say I kicked her and threw her around like a rag doll. Never happened.

I never did anything to her. There was nothing on her face. I was actually trying to protect her and get her to her room. She didn’t want to go, and things got carried away. When you’re both heavily intoxicated, that stuff does stuff to you you’re not supposed to do.”

Kim Myers: ”We’re both pig-headed. But what people don’t know about Brett is how sensitive he is. I tease him about that. He’ll do everything for anybody, and he’s always tried to protect me. We learned. We also became closer. I knew I needed to be there for him.”

Dickie Noles, Phillies employee assistance official who has counseled Myers: ”I can’t think of anybody I’d rather have out there. The players will tell you the same.”

Each of you will draw you own conclusion about this signing. From a baseball standpoint, it’s a good gamble. He’s a 29-year-old power pitcher capable of 200 innings and double-digit victories.

He might also do or say something stupid almost any day. He certainly has a history. I’m comfortable that Myers won’t embarrass the Astros. In fact, he’s going to be trying to prove he still belongs in the big leagues and just might be terrific. He’s still only 29.

Wade certainly won’t duck the topic, and Myers probably won’t either. It’ll be interesting to see how they explain themselves.

Character or not, you have to like Crain and Myers being added to our bullpen this weekend.

This. Has he had problems since that incident 6 years ago?

I'll go back to the Greg/Rongey response.

Guys who are paid $11 million to close aren't going to be setup guys for rookies making the league minimum.

We'll see.
