It is funny to look at teams like MN and the Cubs who are just flat lines at 0%.

I think it's funnier to see Baltimore at 9% despite the fact that if the season ended today they would be in the WC game

Through 119 games (since):

Sox 65-54

TB 65-54 (1-0)

Bal 64-55 (1-0)

Det 64-55 (0-1)

Oak 64-55

LAA 62-57 (0-2)

Angels are really fading. If it takes 89 wins for the second wild card, they have to go 27-14.

And coming into this series with KC, the Sox had 45 games left. If the Sox can't go 25-20 the final 45 for 90 wins against a soft schedule, then they just aren't good enough. And now it's 25-18.

A soft scedule??? Sure in september, but the next 13 games starting Monday are 3 Yankess at home 3 Texas at home 4 At Baltimore and 3 at Detroit. How is that soft??? I consider soft Minny, Cubs, Astros etc. How do those 4 teams fit into the category of SOFT??????

They're done with Texas.

Last 45 games:

9 KC

6 Min

6 Cle

3 Sea

That's 24 of 45 games against teams under .500. That should be 16-8 right there. I'll be nice, and say 15-9.

3 at home vs Yankees. At home, go 2-1. (17-10)

4 at Baltimore. Go 2-2 (19-12)

4 at home vs Rays. Go 2-2. (21-14)

3 at Anaheim. Win 1. (22-16)

7 head-to-head vs Tigers. Go 3-4, minimum. (25-20)

If the Sox don't get to 90 with their schedule, they blew it.

Looks the Rays are going into Anaheim and sweeping them 4 straight. As mad as I am right now about the Sox, I wouldn't want to be in the Angels shoes.

I concur. You spend all that money in the offseason and make the biggest midseason trade. You call up a rookie in May and he is having a historic MVP season. Yet you are on the outside looking in for the playoffs right now, behind several teams.

Here is something very interesting, which may favor the Sox, and perhaps influence the rotation the rest of the way:

Look at these comparative AVG., OBP, SLG, OPS, split stats of our remaining opponents:

Games 2 MARINERS VS LHP .240 .288 .371 .659 VS RHP .229 .297 .361 .658

Games 4 ORIOLES VS LHP .247 .314 .393 .707 VS RHP .242 .303 .410 .712

Games 7 TIGERS VS LHP .250 .325 .401 .726 VS RHP .278 .344 .436 .780 (#1 IN MLB)

Games 6 TWINS VS LHP .264 .333 .405 .738 VS RHP .261 .324 .395 .720

Games 6 ROYALS VS LHP .258 .312 .390 .701 VS RHP .269 .320 .410 .730 (#7 IN MLB)

Games 3 ANGELS VS LHP .264 .323 .427 .750 VS RHP .276 .333 .442 .775 (#2 IN MLB)

Games 6 INDIANS VS LHP .230 .308 .354 .662 VS RHP .263 .331 .410 .741 (#11 IN MLB)

Games 4 RAYS VS LHP .234 .320 .369 .689 VS RHP .238 .314 .384 .698

The only teams on our schedule with a significant disparity in offensive production versus LHP compared to RHP, are the Tigers, Royals, Angels and Indians. In all four cases, they hit RHP much better than LHP. In fact, the Tigers and Angels are #1 and #2 in all of MLB.

The Sox have a left handed dominated starting rotation.

Not only does this all favor the Sox, but it might be a good reason to put Gavin Floyd on an even "shorter leash".

I'd rather see Santiago start over Floyd, but if not, it might be a good idea to use the same tactic that Robin used Monday night.

If Floyd can't get going out of the gate, get him out of there, and bring in Santiago.

Sale, Quintana, Liriano, and Santiago should all match up pretty well vs. these teams that don't hit left handed pitching as well as they do right handed pitching. With Peavy being the only RHP in the rotation, this could be a significant advantage.

Yankees and Rangers are also both significantly better vs RHP than LHP, so that bodes well for the Sox in the postseason that they could have 3/4 of the playoff rotation being left-handed, and still have 3 lefties to spare in the bullpen.
