cabiness42
I'd say it's just more mediocre, which is better than the reputation of worst city in America outside of Detroit it sometimes gets. I would stay too long or anything. The Rock and Roll HoF is worth the trip at least once. As a city to LIVE in, Cleveland >>> Detroit, but as a city to visit for a couple days for fun, Detroit >>> Cleveland.
SnB
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 3, 2015 -> 09:16 AM) Got a very exciting trip to beautiful Cleveland this weekend for a wedding. Anyone ever been to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? Worth a visit? Meh - it was alot smaller than I was expecting. There's not much else to do there, so probably worth a visit but just lower your expectations.
SnB
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 3, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) Cleveland is really underrated. You don't hear that often.
iamshack
My wife is from Cleveland, so I get to hear all about it on a weekly basis. She's kind of like Rose from Golden Girls talking about St Olaf's.
RockRaines
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 3, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) I'd say it's just more mediocre, which is better than the reputation of worst city in America outside of Detroit it sometimes gets. I would stay too long or anything. The Rock and Roll HoF is worth the trip at least once. It had a brief revival in the late 90s and early 2000s but all of that is gone now. It's probably better than Detroit but that's not saying much. Columbus and Cincy are both better choices in Ohio. I haven't been to the RnR HOF in a long time. I can't remember if I enjoyed it much. But seriously slymans has the best corned beef in the world.
StrangeSox
Cincy is a pretty nice town. My wife and I just happened to be there when the cubs were in town back in 2008 I think. We had a 10th floor room at the Hyatt overlooking the park, and they put on one of the best fireworks shows I've ever seen.

It's quaint and you have to get some insider info to find the gems but it's clean and has enough to keep you busy. Columbus is massive compared to the others. ChiSox_Sonix
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 3, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) No. Its rated exactly where it should be. It's a crap city with very little redeeming qualities. Slymans is the only thing I would say is ok. I've visited a few times to go to Sox games and it's not the worst city I've ever been to. The downtown is really cleaned up, they have some decent bars/restaurants and the casino is new. I'm not in a rush to go back, but weekend trips when the Sox are in town are enjoyable. NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 3, 2015 -> 09:35 AM) Baltimore and St. Louis are pretty awful cities too. Baltimore's inner harbor area is nice, lots to do. But once you get a few blocks out from there, it goes downhill very quickly in every direction. St Louis isn't bad, plenty of fun to fill a weekend at least. I'm personally of the mind that you can go to just about any decent sized town or city in the US, and if you look into it a bit, you can find at least a weekend's worth of fun stuff to do. You just might have to dig a little.
LittleHurt05
Didn't expect so many spirited opinions about Cleveland, thanks for the entertainment guys! We are just there late Friday to mid-Sunday with the wedding Saturday night, so just need to entertain ourselves Saturday during the day. Sounds like the RR HOF should do the trick, unless I decide to help the struggling local economy at the casino all day. Figure on Friday night finding a sports bar to watch hockey shouldn't be too tough in the middle of the downtown area. One shocking thing I learned today is that Cleveland actually has a subway system, I did not expect that.

It goes in waves, back when I was in college the "flats" were really happening then they all went under. They have opened up a little more these days but nothing quite like it was. They went the casino route like Detroit to bring in some business.

LittleHurt05
You can have a fun weekend in Cleveland, but living there seems very depressing. Since we were kid less for the weekend, chose sleeping in and the casino over the Rock and Roll HOF

Ozzie Ball
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 8, 2015 -> 11:52 PM) I'm going to Spain March 12-22nd. Madrid for 5 days then Valencia. Trying to go to a soccer game though I can't really figure out how tickets quite work. We're right next to real madrid stadium do I'd love to do that but it seems they only have "vip" section tickets on sale. Anyone have experience buy tickets to big soccer team games? Do they usually make tickets available closer to the game? Right now the date of the game isn't even set in stone so I'm not sure if it's sold out or if tickets just aren't available yet. Also any Spain recommendations would be great. You have probably figured this out by now but you just have to wait for the tickets to become available to the general public (for Real Madrid anyway), which typically happens only 5 or 6 days before the game, otherwise you would need to be a club member. You can buy tickets for the game on the 15th now (Real vs. Levante), and it looks like there are still around 4,000 tickets available so you shouldn't have any problems getting a seat. Buehrle>Wood
Hanauma Bay snorkeling is the best thing by far I did in Hawaii. Didn't really like Hawaii though. Rained too much so hopefully you avoid that. Spain for me tomorrow yay

Kauai Must Do's Anything to do with Kalalau Trail/Napali Coast - hike it, helicopter, boat tour. This is a MUST do Eat at Puka Dog Check out every beach that you see on the Kauai Revealed app, the best beaches in Kauai need to be hiked anywhere from a couple of minutes to 20 minutes but you will not be disappointed Queen's Bath - must see to believe Hee Fat General Store - They do shaved ice differently in Hawaii and this is the best Waimea Canyon - Hawaii's Grand Canyon...drive all the way to the end of the road, crazy awesome lookout Oahu Must Do's Spitting Caves during sunset Hanauma Bay is cool, water was very choppy when there so it was tough to see, I'd love to go back North Shore, check out Bonzai Pipeline, even when it's not "going off" - the waves are enourmous Eat at Opal Thai in the North Shore, on Triple D, was one of the best meals and funnest times I've had at a restaurant. I'll have overnights on Maui and Kauai, which is fun (I work on cruise ships) Maui- Lahaina is a really cool city. The Road to Hana is a fun drive if you have time, but it's an all day thing. The aquarium on the island is good, lots of snorkeling. Haleakala is supposed to be really cool, we'll be checking that out this summer. Kauai--Waimea canyon is cool, either as a drive-and-see or with some hiking. The north shore area is absolutely beautiful. The Na Pali Coast (Jurassic Park helicopter scene) can be seen by either boat or helicopter. Lots of hiking. You can kayak up a river near the mid-east side but I can't remember the exact name of it right now. Really fun. Big Island--Haven't been, but heading there this summer. Volcanoes national park is supposed to be really cool, but it's not flowing into the ocean right now. Again lots of hiking, snorkeling, helicopter and boat tours, fishing, etc. etc. etc. eta we have a two week trip to Hawaii planned this summer with maybe 1/2 a day total of "beach time," lol.
