Texsox
The anniversary of many US Civil War events have been happening and will be happening. Next summer we are thinking of hitting the Civil War trail for some of the remembrances, events, (Celebrations?)
Jenksismyhero
Interested. I'm a history buff that rewatches Ken Burns' Civil War every few years. When I was like 12 my parents and I hopped into our RV and hit up a lot of the battlefield sites over a couple of summers (Gettysburg, Vicksburg, etc). That is an awesome experience that I hope to do again with my own kid(s). Edited August 3, 2012 by Jenksismybitch
Chisoxfn
Are there going to be some cool 150 anniversary things going on? If so, this might be the perfect time for me to finally go see Gettysburg, etc. I am a total history buff.
Texsox
All of the major battlefields have stuff planned. Some started last year 1861 + 150. It is kind of a rolling thing, since the war went on for a few years.
southsider2k5
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 11:13 AM) Are there going to be some cool 150 anniversary things going on? If so, this might be the perfect time for me to finally go see Gettysburg, etc. I am a total history buff. July 4th weekend they always do a reinactment at the Gettysburg battlefield. i would imagine next year will be extra big. If you haven't gone, you have to go. It is an incredibly powerful place. I can't wait to go back and really get in detail on the battlefield.
Texsox
http://civilwar150th.org/ There are a lot of resources for finding events. Some of the smaller battlegrounds can be the most interesting because you can get real close and personal. I'd love to see Gettysburg, that must be incredible. Balta1701
There were battles in this area in the middle of the war, haven't seen anything specifically for 150 here.

BigSqwert
I saw a thread started by Tex titled "150 Years Ago" and figured he was telling us about his upcoming birthday.

CrimsonWeltall
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confederates_in_the_Attic Interesting book; not about the Civil War itself, but about peoples' interest in the Civil War. Historians, reenactors, Southerners.

Texsox
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 05:24 PM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confederates_in_the_Attic Interesting book; not about the Civil War itself, but about peoples' interest in the Civil War. Historians, reenactors, Southerners. Southerners have more interest because of the hundreds of thousands of war dead that are buried in the south. The monuments are all over the south. My vote for Dr. Pepper indicates my non-interest. It is a spectacularly un-interesting time period for me. That along with the Middle Ages.
