Swingandalongonetoleft
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 11:50 AM) A gigantic nuclear powered space laser. Is there any chance we blow up Mars? Actually, I wonder how far off weapons testing on the surface of the moon or another planet is. Space fascinates me. Be it through books, internet, even the fairly generic stuff on the Discovery channel- nothing comes close to the level of fascination I have with space. No, and it will be some time before the more hi-def stuff from this starts coming back, but the cameras on this are incredible.

GoSox05
How long before NASA fires up the space laser? I can't wait to see some of the hi-def photos.
Balta1701
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) How long before NASA fires up the space laser? I can't wait to see some of the hi-def photos. It'll take at least a week of Mars-days, maybe more, for them to lift up the mast, move out the arm, and decide where they're heading off to. Lots of "how is everything doing" checks and warmups. And frankly, we all know that the engineers will want to find the skycrane wreckage and take a photo of that. Balta1701
QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) How far apart are those things from each other? Damn you LPL for not including a scalebar and forcing me to do math. That image covers about a kilometer in width, if I've read LPL's scale bar correctly. So everything's a few hundred meters apart.
