Cali
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) You still have guys like Danks and Tyler Flowers. Flowers is too risky with no thirs catcher or emergency catcher. And Danks doesn't hit enough XBH's to justify DHing him. Plus you'd lose his defense if you need to spell Tank. Johnson makes the most sense (depending on his L/R splits) he's a lefty with some pop. I'd take that for a week or so. Might run into one. Especially if he pretends every pitcher is Matt Thorton or he's playing the Yankees in game 162.

fathom
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) Robin won't start whoever a call up is. He never does. I disagree. If they call up Johnson, he'll be the primary DH for the next week against RHP. If they do decide to DH Viciedo (with Danks in LF) or Flowers (#401 in terms of batting average in the majors this year among hitters with 75 ABs), that would be an awful decision. I would actually love to see the Sox call up Johnson for PK and then release Hudson and promote CoJack. CoJack could play tomorrow vs the LHP and then against Romero next week. Yeah, I'm sure they'll do that once in Toronto on the turf. If PK gets DL'd the bench guys will get the AB's, not the call up.
Cali
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 10:00 AM) The end of the story is the Sox are not going to turn a guy into a starter for six days, only to send him right back down. If PK gets DL'd the bench guys will get the AB's, not the call up. Thing is, I wouldn't be surprised if he's out for longer than the six days. He also should stay out longer since I still believe he's not fully recovered from his wrist injury.

Because PK didn't play on Wed, he could be out as little as five games, because they can retroactively DL him.
NorthSideSox72
The whole risk with Flowers at DH thing is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overblown. First of all, the issue only comes up if Flowers is in the game at DH and AJ gets hurt mid-game or is ejected (neither of which have happened more than a few times his entire career with the Sox). And even if it does happen, Flowers can still catch, but we lose the DH slot for the remainder of the game... and late in the game it would be pinch hitters anyway. It is really not a huge risk, at all, especially for a few days.

If the bases are empty have them take 2 and then swing as hard as they can. With runners on, bunt.
Kyyle23
I dont see what the big deal is giving the ABs to Johnson if he were called up. I think he can manage Flowers .170 BA

Balta1701
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 11:59 AM) I'd rather see Brent called up. We have two guys who can play 1B in Youk and Dunn. We have only one guy who can play 3B worth a s***. Olmedo and Hudson are just awful over there. Brent hasn't looked like he's worthy of playing 3b either. Hell, I would have taken Pods back instead of trying to get Flowers more at bats.

Clearly Johnson's not going to come in and hit .300, but I also think he'd contribute a hell of a lot more than Flowers has this year offensively.
