danman31
I'm making a prediction that Courtney Hawkins will start 2013 in Winston-Salem. Hitters' park for a power hitting prospect, sounds good. They did it with Ryan Sweeney.

That'll work.
oldsox
Dan Black still raking. He's a year older than Mitchell. If Mitchell had these numbers, this board would be lit up and Sox brass would be salivating, the Trib would be covering him, ESPN would induct him into the Hall of Fame.....Minor League POY, yadda, yadda. But his name is Dan Black, he's big so he plays first base and can't get promoted because he would interrupt the career path of Wilkins, Johnson, et al. Geez. You can keep making comments like this all you want, but it doesn't, and won't, change the fact that he is 25 and in A ball and that he's not even a top 30 prospect. NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 09:00 AM) Dan Black still raking. He's a year older than Mitchell. But his name is Dan Black, he's big so he plays first base and can't get promoted because he would interrupt the career path of Wilkins, Johnson, et al. Geez. A year older than Mitchell with a lot more service time and at lower levels, and the fact that he plays 1B isn't some small difference. Johnson isn't in Charlotte because of career path, he's there because he's a major league ready bat keeping as sharp as possible. And Wilkins is indeed still probably above Black on the food chain... though it is not impossible that Black will pass him up at some point, given their divergent performances this year. Wilkins has been promoted aggressively, now in AA in his 3rd year in the minors, and lost some time to injury. So again, service time difference. Black has gotten to mature ahead of the age median for his leagues, Wilkins and Mitchell have not. I know it irritates you that he's not being given much consideration, but there's no need to exaggerate everything to make your point. If he keeps hitting like this, and does so in AA next year, then the Sox will likely give him a longer look. But until then, he just has to keep raking at every level and wait for the opportunity. Johnson likely will be gone next year, that is the nature of guys like that. If Wilkins is sent to AAA (which may or may not happen), then Dan will have his chance in B-Ham to prove himself. Or, they may have both players at B-Ham next year, alternating DH and 1B.

That'll work. That's also about half the time he was projected to spend in the minors, and puts him in the majors at age.....21? 22? That's DAMN optimistic. I'll shoot for late 2016 as a debut time for Courtney.

A year older, two levels behind, he's a 1B vs a CF, has much more professional experience, and probably didn't come from a football background. Other than that, seems like a good comparison. flavum
QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 12:03 AM) I'm making a prediction that Courtney Hawkins will start 2013 in Winston-Salem. Hitters' park for a power hitting prospect, sounds good. They did it with Ryan Sweeney. You may be right, but I feel like this promotion to Kanny is just to give him a 20-game preview of next season. And then maybe do the same thing next August--to W-S, and so on. With Mitchell, Walker, and Thompson in the pipeline, they really don't have to rush Hawkins. They can be fairly conservative over the next few years, and he still could be a September callup in 2015, and that would be before his 22nd birthday. Plenty of time with this kid. Not everyone is Mike Trout and Bryce Harper.
