Eventually (and usually sooner rather than later) the team will believe it has a young player that can outperform him...and then he goes elsewhere to be a 9 hitter. His defense is very good, and his lack of consistent hitting will be overlooked for the most part because of that. I still hope there's a better hitter waiting inside him, but it's hard to be optimistic about that based on his performance the past couple years. At about 7:15 Tuesday, the Sox were on their way to losing, Verlander was up 3-0, and it looked like the lead was down to 1 with an ice-cold offense & Detroit feasting on lowly KC. Then Verlander gets crushed, Cy Chen happens, and Joe Saunders returns to the AL, and suddenly the Sox are up 3 games and everything is rainbows & gumdrops.
