Spiritinthesky
If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be? John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly, Freddie Mercury? Or someone else? southsider2k5
Lennon would be choice #1. I would have loved to have seen what he did with his life. After that, probably Freddy Mercury.
Jake
Shannon Hoon or from that list...Freddie Mercury

Balta1701
This thread appeared in the front page as "If you could bring a dead rock". I would have gone with a nice archean lightly metamorphosed sandstone. Anyway, John Bonham. Put Zeppelin back together.
BigEdWalsh
Should go with Hendrix just because but I'd say Ritchie Valens because dying at 17 is really a life cut waaaay too short. His recording career lasted 8 months.

FlaSoxxJim
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 10:57 AM) Lennon would be choice #1. I would have loved to have seen what he did with his life. After that, probably Freddy Mercury. The OP stated bring back someone for one gig, not for good, or else I probably would go Lennon as well. For one gig, though, it would be Hendrix for sure.

Swingandalongonetoleft
I think it would be between Layne Staley and John Lennon, but probably the former because it's clear that he had so much more to offer. If we're including those who have lived full lives, Waylon Jennings would also get consideration. Wu-Tang isn't Wu-Tang without ODB, so that's something to think about as well. 2nd_city_saint787
If I had to make a starting 5 I'd say... Bob Marley Jim Morrison Jimmy Hendrix Freddie Mercury Kurt Cobain
knightni
A Marley concert would turn into a religious event for some.

lasttriptotulsa
Since most people are giving the standard Hendrix, Mercury, Lennon answers, I'll go with a little less popular answer and say Danny Whitten from Crazy Horse. Most have never heard of him, but man was he a talent. Listen to Neil Young's - Live From the Fillmore East and hear just how amazing the band was when Whitten was alive. His death was also the inspiration for Neil Young's famed "Ditch Trilogy" of albums. Young was in a great depression because he had fired Whitten because he was too messed up and gave him a plane ticket and some money to enter rehab, well Whitten took that money and scored some dope with it and overdosed and died. That emotion led Young to record possibly the best three albums of his career.
