DISASTER

Well that was quite the punch the Sox just took over the weekend. It should be interesting to see how they respond. I saw a team that looked tired. Guys who have been working on career and/or multi-year world loads, or just plain beat up. It is amazing that the Sox have been in the race this long when you consider how much more talent the Tigers have, not to mention the injuries the Sox have played through. Hopefully they can respond for the last month.

It's too early to start writing epilogues on the season, but we should all be proud of how they've fought so hard and been so resilient all season long in the face of adversity.

Yes, some will say no moral victories, we're choking, KW should be fired, the whole roster should be blown up in the offseason, etc., but it's still amazing they've come so far with all the injuries and the terribly young and inconsistent bullpen.

Crain and Thornton were the two most important veteran pieces down there and they've both been pretty big disappointments this season.

Other than Gordon Beckham, Morel and those bitter about Viciedo not making the All-Star team and being Top 10 in the MVP race, it's been a fun year to follow, and the White Sox haven't given up in the face of similar situations, like the previous sweep.

Peavy, Dunn and Rios all rebounded from near-death experiences in terms of their career arcs, and Jose Quintana has been one of the more pleasant stories of the entire season.

Picking up YOUK, Myers and Liriano at least gave us a fighting chance these last 30 games. We still have the easiest schedule in the American League, but we're going to have to beat the Royals and yes, the Tigers AT HOME, to win this thing.

Whenever you think all hope is lost, just remember the last 2-3 weeks of the 2008 season, when we were in a similar situation vis a vis a similarly dominant historical foe, the Twins.

All hope is not YET lost.

At this point, keep pace with the Tiggers until we play them at home. If we show poorly there, then they've flat-out taken it from us.

Truthfully we played very good baseball last night & pretty good ball the night before. That first game of the series we threw away, just like we've done time and again vs. the Royals. We threw away a game in Baltimore and Robin's thrown away a couple of Quintana's masterpieces. From about June on where it was very clear we were a legitimate contender, we've thrown away so many games that it's both a testament to our resiliency and the inconsistency of Detroit that we're still here.

We can't throw away any more games. We have Minny & KC ahead of us; if we play **solid** baseball, stop kicking the damn ball around, come up with some clutch hits here and there, score the man from 3rd with less than 2 outs, quit with the lefty-righty overthink crap, etc. and just play good, quality baseball then we will be in an excellent position to get back at the Tigers in our own ballpark.

You have to take each game and each series at hand first. We may have lost three games to the Tigers in Detroit but bpottom ;line is we are tied and not out of first place. The last seven games have been very upsetting. No offense, getting dominated by other teams pitching, our pitching not on par with a winning team mentality except for Axelrod, etc We need to win starting tonite and that's where the concentration needs to be.

The best thing happening for the Sox right now is getting out of Detroit and coming back home for a 10 game home stand. That and keeping Matt Thornton out of critical situations.

All jokes aside, there's only two more off-days so there's not much room for guys to get hurt, have mental breakdowns, or worry about scoreboard results. It's time to TCOB.

The Sox were supposed to lose 90+ games. Many on here had the Tigers winning at least 100. They are now tied. The Sox are clearly choking.

But in all seriousness, losing 7 in a row at Detroit is really unbelievable, especially when you consider they are still tied. The Sox couldn't play well at home earlier this season, now they play very well there. Youkilis' OPS is double at USCF what it is on the road. Too bad they couldn't at least keep playing well on the road. Home games are going to help this team, and when Detroit comes into town, they are going to have to at least split. They are still in a better position now than they have been in years, especially with Cabrera grabbing his hip yesterday. He goes down and the Tigers are kittens.

Peter Gammons -key to the rest of the season is Sale and Cy so long ago Peavy. The latter needs to step up and shut up.

I never understood why so many of you think him yelling at himself is a bad thing...He's always been this way, thats just who he is, a fiery, competitive guy. I like it, shows he cares....Weren't there people on here who got on Gavin for showing no emotion???

Speakin of Gavin, whens he due back?

I don't disagree with this statement. It's one thing for Jake to talk to himself during a game for motivation, but when he chimes in about how he is looking forward to pitching the big game and then blows it that's a different story

I don't mind that either. He should want to go back out there after failure. It's just the other stuff he's. The over hype has become over kill.

Gavin Floyd has been more reliable in 3 years than Peavy. Showing up is important. Staying healthy is part of a players responsibility.

Jake has only won 15 or more twice in his career. Mark B. did that his first 4 years.

I still think wins are part of the equation. Maddux won 20 on some losing Cub teams. That's what real aces do. They win even on bad teams. It's not all them but the confidence they put in a team when they are on the mound. Chris Sale will be an ace. He probably is now. Hopefully the handle him the same way next year.

It will be interesting to see how the Sox respond vs the Twins this week. If they take care of business and regain momentum, I can easily see them taking 3 of 4 vs Detroit at the Cell next week. Just take one game at a time! This is far from ova. :) This happened before where Detroit took the lead, but we bounced back at took it from them. Lets do that again!

GO WHITE SOX! WAKE UP!!!!

The wake up call should be that we are 2 games back in the wild card standings with 3 teams in front of us.

Ugh. That is scary. We lead all season and now all of a sudden it looks like the Sox are not gonna be playoff bound. I'm thinking at season's end everybody will proclaim this season a vast success. It's going to be revealed that Konerko needs surgery or something and we all know about the other injuries. Should be interesting to see if this team is indeed out of gas or beats the crap out of a horrendous Minnesota team and gets back on track.
