Balta1701
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 03:22 PM) Ugh. That is scary. We lead all season and now all of a sudden it looks like the Sox are not gonna be playoff bound. I'm thinking at season's end everybody will proclaim this season a vast success. It's going to be revealed that Konerko needs surgery or something and we all know about the other injuries. Should be interesting to see if this team is indeed out of gas or beats the crap out of a horrendous Minnesota team and gets back on track. Frankly, yes, this season has been a decent success. If nothing else, they have turned around the "We keep getting worse every season" ethos and actually fielded a team that stayed competitive through September at the very least. On top of that, we suddenly have a whole lot of cheap young guys already contributing, particularly in the bullpen, who are likely to get better and clear salary for the future. Next offseason we can get back to the "Where the bleep did that come from" kenny williams signing/trades rather than the "we need to get rid of this salary" trades, and see where we can go. Rowand44
The good news is that Detroit really isn't that good. The bad news is that for some f***in reason we can't beat them. This team has responded all season long when facing adversity so I'm not worried at all what their response will be but I sure as hell am worried about getting swept again next week when we face them. Hopefully the home cooking will help.

I'm still amazed they have made it this far with the injuries and those holes filled by inexperienced players. Also great coaching this year. This is one of the better fundamentally sound Sox teams we've seen in awhile. Even though you wouldn't notice it of late but much better approach at the plate. Plus you got some team speed. These are some of the things we envied from the winning Twins and they are present on the Sox.

Hopefully the home cooking will help. They are under achievers right now. There's no excuse for them to be like this in Sept. with two stud starters, two stud hitters and a good pen in a weak division. In my perfect world it would be nice to be 6 up when they face them again. Then the attitude could be, "go ahead kick our ass, it won't help you". caulfield12
Please, better bullpen management. That would be nice. No more Myers ending games needlessly. Clutch hitting with RISP. Someone besides DeAza and Wise looking hitterish. Middle of the line-up actually wakes up, and YOUK decides to start playing well again since we're at USCF, where he's a monster. Healthy Sale and Q. Floyd to come back and pitch like an ace, not like the bed wetter. Same with Liriano, next time out.
VAfan
The Sox' big hitters are all slumping at the same time. I was looking at their last 7 days while watching the game last night, and it was pathetic. The ironic thing was that Robin rested Viciedo and Beckham, who were two of our better hitters over the last week. The worst was Konerko, with Youk, Dunn, Rios, and AJ also hitting terribly. The best hitter was Ramirez. Sox can't win if the core of the lineup doesn't hit. Trouble is, the Sox have no bench to give those guys and occasional rest. The good news is that the remaining schedule gives the Sox a very good chance. More home than road games (17-12). 6 each against Minnesota and Cleveland (and 6 against KC). The 8 games against Detroit and Tampa are in Chicago. Only winning team we have left on the road is 3 in Anaheim. Tigers may have an easier schedule of opponents, but have more road games (12-16). I would not count out this veteran team.
