He also played center on KCC basketball team that was ranked #1 in the 80's. RIP

I paused for a moment when I found out he played for KCC.

Now you're telling me KCC actually was ranked something?

I'll be damned. I took summer classes there this year when I was home and all I could think was "Ugh, KCC"

How in the world was a community college team ranked #1 in the nation? A two year system.

Actuall I think is misleading. I think that it is the NJCAA not the NCAA. I remember DePaul was a top NCAA team in the 80s

With Ray Meyer. Maybe even were #1 at some point.

How is that misleading...really? Of course it's not NCAA...

Was really shocked to hear of his passing...by all accounts a good guy!

I read this in one of the articles and it made it sound like they were the best team (including 4 year colleges) in the nation. Best community college basketball team in the nation.

1978-79 season. They were ranked number one and made it to the Final Four. They lost to Larry Bird's Indiana State team in the semi's, who, in turn, lost to Magic Johnson's MSU team in the finals. Yikes that's tough competition!
