Swingandalongonetoleft
QUOTE (Real @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 05:10 AM) according to mully and hanley this morning, MLB has flat out denied that this story has any truth to it they did not issue a "no comment" or "can't confirm/deny" statement, Mike Mulligan said they flat out called it false FWIW No Sox game on the schedule today, but if this holds, it would be as sweet as a taking both games of a doubleheader against the Tigers. Would be a fitting end to this if he went out and hit some long ones tomorrow. Edited September 6, 2012 by Swingandalongonetoleft
southsider2k5
QUOTE (Real @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 08:33 AM) Coop on the score now, says he hasn't heard anything about this and isn't even worth talking about since it's just a rumor Mully clarified the MLB response. Sox front office heard the rumors, and contacted MLB yesterday/last night about this situation and were told there's nothing to it So does that mean teams aren't told if their players have tested positive until after the appeals process? I don't know the process at all, and wanted to clarify it. Would the Sox even know if something was happening? It seems weird that they would call MLB to check, if they should already know. If he's believable, Brian Sabean says he found out about Melky ~ 24 hours before the suspension became public...I'd guess that means teams aren't informed during an appeal. The team might not know though, and it could be for many different reasons. A false positive could set in teams mind that he is a juicer for the next contract negotiations, even if it isn't true. Jake
You can't tell the team until its official. You don't want that GM, etc to tell the rest of the league about your positive test when you might be seeking a free agent contract, etc. I'd imagine a successfully appealed positive would still leave a black mark on your record, even if your excuse isn't as lame as Braun's. Considering the number of people that supposedly heard about AJ though, it seems hard to believe no one in the front office would have heard/been asked about it until yesterday if this was true. Balta1701
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) Considering the number of people that supposedly heard about AJ though, it seems hard to believe no one in the front office would have heard/been asked about it until yesterday if this was true. Depends on what we mean by "Supposedly heard". All we've got until the WSI post are a few vague statements that suggest a couple people thought AJ was distracted, and his performance falling off over the past week or two. There's a lot of things that could be. Maybe he's in the Adam Dunn boat of a sick kid. Maybe he's having other family troubles. Maybe he had an extra bad hangover and the team was annoyed with him for it.
bigruss
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 06:17 AM) Does this mean the press conference in which the White Sox forgot to invite the press is cancelled? A lot of people around the country are going to be pissed. A few on this board as well. You are the most insufferable poster here. NO ONE has said they hope this rumor is true. iamshack
Would we have sensed this from Hawk somehow I wonder? Is it at least possible, a 35 year old catcher who plays as much as AJ, in a summer that was extremely hot, with a young pitching staff that throws a lot of balls in the dirt, so he will take an extra beating, has a performance dip due to the tank being a little low? You took the rumor of a guy on the street internet poster and said "it doesn't look good." Sorry if I didn't take the bait, and if people at USCF like jenksismyb**** reported were saying it was true with a press conference today, when the White Sox didn't even know about, you know there are people who want this to be true. You would have to be very naive to think there aren't posters on here who are dissappointed this isn't true.

Of course, but that wasn't what fathom was referring to with his statement about "The stuff we've heard". "The stuff we've heard" were a few vague tossaway lines from Konerko and the guys on the radio that seemed to suggest AJ was a bit distracted recently (and heck, even people here have been frustrated with his hustle down the line lately).
