Dick Allen Posted September 13, 2012 Share Posted September 13, 2012 Let's preface this by saying, I don't think anyone here claims post surgery, Jake Peavy is an ace, but considering his recent starts and his career 5.57 post season ERA, if Justin Verlander gives up 3 runs tonight, its obvious using Soxtalk standards, JVINNA. And 3 runs isn't bad. Not finishing the 6th inning is a problem IMO. Is it too much to ask Peavy to pitch like that once in a big game? That, plus his over 5.50 postseason ERA confirms by Soxtalk standards he's not an ace. Even last year, in 4 postseason starts he went 20 innings and gave up 12 runs which is 4 starts of 5 innings 3 runs, exactly what everyone is so all over Peavy about. Certainly not ace-like. I disagree that salary is irrelevant. It has hamstrung the Sox from signing other players, so the closer he produces to his value, the better. He has had an outstanding season and has been a big part of the Sox success. Except for when he has faced Detroit, which is frustrating as hell. And for someone who hypes up his own attitude & desire, how about you beat your teams biggest rival when it matters? That said, I know the importance of venting frustrations and the Sox play vs. the Tigers has been nothing short of incredibly frustrating.
