Well, this situation was 100% predictable, as soon as the first Youkilis bunt attempt was fouled last night.

You have to play to win. Now the White Sox are on the defensive again and playing tight. Ventura should have referenced our numbers with runners in scoring position and just played for the huge inning, but it's all crying over spilled milk now.

And facing perhaps the best pitcher in the majors the last 2 months.

If Liriano was the answer last night, why is he not the answer tonight? Santiago is pitching well and it has worked out but the theory behind it makes no sense unless they were just pushing Liriano back and threw him yesterday to get him work which makes no sense either.

Anyway the pitching has not been the issue the hitting is abysmal and getting Hudson in there over Beckham is not helping matters.

A decent consistent offense and we are talking about what day we are clinching. That and of course not completely getting owned by 50 % of your division.

Injuries have decimated the White Sox. Besides the obvious ones like Danks and Dunn, you have guys like Konerko who's been mediocre since June and even De Aza seems to have hit the wall now. Just think about this...Wise is batting 3rd for the White Sox while Miguel Cabrera bats 3rd for the Tigers.

We are 3 homers away from YOUK...having the only offense with 6 guys hitting 20+ homers.

I think we are the only one still with 5 (Dunn, Konerko, Rios, AJ, Viciedo).

One shudders to think what will happen without AJ, Youk and Viciedo if his confidence is shaken by getting benched down the stretch run.

Youk is also not healthy by most accounts. Gordon Beckham also has mental health concerns (green?)

Also, if AJ had caught that offspeed on 1-2 he'd have been rung up

Amazing how this offense is unable to generate a single run

Kinda hard to score runs when your #1 hitter is struggling, your #2 hitter is struggling, your #3 hitter is D. Wise (he's been very good, but still, it's D. Wise), your #4 hitter lost his power, your #5/6 hitters seems to be homer or nothing and your #7 hitter can't touch a righty. The fact this team is still in the lead in the division is borderline amazing.

Well, when you put it that way...

Good call on Youk, and in all honesty, him being on leave very likely cost the Sox at least one win last weekend. Lopez on Friday and Olmedo on Sunday couldn't have contributed less.

Rios is awesome.

Clearly, DET has MORE talent, just with Jackson, Cabrera, Fielder, Verlander and Scherzer alone.

We have Sale, Rios is putting up a season comparable or better than Jackson, but Dunn/Konerko haven't come close to besting Cabrera/Fielder. Peavy has been very good, but he's not pitching like their two aces.

The main advantage we have is AJ's huge offensive output over Avila's slumping year AND the fact that Victor Martinez, one of the most clutch hitters in baseball, has been out all year.

Dunn has had some huge clutch homers, but he's not the kind of hitter that can consistently get singles and doubles in RBI/RISP situations.
