SI1020
QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 05:10 AM) As negative as I was pre-2012, I see no way the 2013 team will compete. Too many pieces of this team will be gone, health concerns for Danks, Jones, Reed, Sale and Quintana (thought I think Hahn/KW will trade him in the winter) and its an odd numbered year so Rios should go in the tank. I'm not gonna say 100 losses but easily a .500 team. I agree, and think .500 may be optimistic. Of course I reserve the right to change my mind if Hahn or KW, whoever is in charge is able to pull some rabbits out of a hat in the off season. Of course I reserve the right to change my mind if Hahn or KW, whoever is in charge is able to pull some rabbits out of a hat in the off season. The Sox plan should be to take on short term deals for players that could catch lightning in a bottle, while drafting and developing their own players. No more signings or acquisitions of guys like Peavy, Dunn, and Rios. The Sox desperately need to have a couple 20-something stars over the next few years. Sale is there, but offensively, it would be nice if Trayce Thompson, Carlos Sanchez, and Jered Mitchell panned out. And then Hawkins in 2-3 years. I hope Hahn has some different views than Kenny, and he'll actually be allowed to do them. My fear is Kenny doesn't have to do the grunt work anymore, but Hahn has to execute Kenny's plan and get approval on everything.
elrockinMT
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 05:06 AM) July 24 to yesterday ... Sox had first place. Late September, it's vanished finally. First place. It was fun to know ya. It has been painful, but let's think positive and get it back. Maybe we play better against the better teams

SOXOBAMA
I am still happy with this year, we had many rookies and a rookie Mgr. We were pick by many to be in last place but the Sox still have a great chance to make the playoffs.
Jake
What do we know about Rick Hahn that makes us so sure he'd do this thing or that thing? Everyone keeps hoping that Hahn will "finally bring in a good player" and s*** like this. What do you think KW does? He f***ing does s***. He makes splashes. A true change in GM would be someone that is decidedly less aggressive and would instead be more effective at developing homegrown talent. That may or may not be an improvement, but I can't imagine a fan getting excited about their team getting real conservative
bmags
I'm just so bummed. It's so god damn hard to win a division in baseball, it takes so much longer to build a team to do it, and you need good luck with injuries. To get this close and just completely s*** the bed against bad teams is just damn hard to take.
LVSoxFan
For real? We're one game out with seven games to go and people have closed the book on this season? WTF? This feels an awful lot like 2008, where we battled with the Twins to see not who could win it, but who could lose it. But we made it in. Why don't we save the next year talk when it's officially wait 'til next year?
Wanne
QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 03:58 AM) Pitchers, hitters, coaches...it is a collective choke job. My fear is we are witnessing the fall of Paul Konerko. Age may have caught up with him unfortunately. The thing about Konerko is the guy was hitting close to .400 the first quarter of the season...and he just fell off the cliff. Still don't see how his avg is around .300...but you just don't go from being that spectacular to over the hill in a month. Something has to be wrong with his wrist... That may or may not be an improvement, but I can't imagine a fan getting excited about their team getting real conservative I just want to see good baseball moves. They don't make the playoffs or draw fans anyway, so make good baseball decisions that don't bury you for 3-4 years at a time, and start developing your own talent. They can sign veteran pitchers to 1-2 year deals that have just as much chance to catch lightning in a bottle, and hopefully at the same time they have guys coming up in the next couple years that will be better and cheaper, so you can go out and make a big free agent splash or trade when the time is right. Wanne
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 11:26 PM) I would trade 2 of 3 out of Q, Viciedo and Reed for MLB ready, cost-controlled talent well that sounds like a nice package for Justin Upton right there... Jake
I'll be very interested in the months after the season to see what is said about Paulie. If he immediately gets cut on, we'll know this is all injury-related. If nothing comes out about injury, then things are not good. That would mean the problem is either chronic or there is no injury and he's just back to the old mercurial Konerko.

The Ultimate Champion
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 11:17 AM) Then what happened to Jermaine Dye. JD ended his career because he didn't want to take a part time role as a DH. He had the same type of half season that Thome had here, AJ had here, Paulie has had here, etc. where the whole board cried "Done"! due to age. All of those players rebounded with nice full seasons afterwards and there is no reason to believe that after that great first half that year JD wouldn't have done the same elsewhere.
