Buehrle>Wood
Starting Role AJ is a free agent. A decision will have to be made about him. I believe it's almost a guarantee that the Sox will try to sign him. He likely won't touch his 2012 numbers, but it shouldn't matter. AJ has been here a long time and we have nothing in the system to replace him with. I believe a two year deal should work out with us. It will be interesting to see how much other interest he will receive from other teams. With pretty much everyone in the league hating him, perhaps we could get him a little cheaper. Doesn't hurt that he likely wants to stay with the White Sox as well. Back-up Role Tyler Flowers was pretty dreadful in the first half. I even claimed he would be cut mid-season. He did however end up growing on me. He should not be considered for the starting role under any circumstance, but I would like to see him back with the team. If we do indeed bring AJ back, it doesn't make sense to go out and spend any money on a veteran back-up who will rarely play. Gimenez was great in limited action for us, but I doubt he will get much of a shot to crack the main roster. Other free agents *denotes some sort of option Koyie Hill Chris Iannetta *Russell Martin Jeff Mathis Brian McCann * Mike Napoli Wil Nieves Miguel Olivo * Ronny Paulino Humberto Quintero David Ross Carlos Ruiz * Yorvit Torrealba Given the overall lack of depth at catcher across the league, there are actually some decent options here if we need a stop-gap to replace AJ. The two Atlanta catchers stick out most. I doubt the Braves would bring both back. McCann seems to be the odd man out for the immediate future and his expensive option that will likely get declined, but he is younger than Ross.
