ChiliIrishHammock24
A's got a steal, and the Marlins got robbed. Wasn't there a good market for Heath Bell before the trade deadline? And then they give him away with some 2nd RD prospect that had a terrible year in A-ball, while still paying $9M of his contract? Paying 9M is better than paying the entire 21M. Guess this means Ozzie is staying around.
Dick Allen
The Marlins are paying more for Heath Bell not to pitch for them than they would have to pay Ozzie to not manage them. maybe Ozzie is sticking around. Even with a payroll half the size on average, the A's always seem to be competitive and sometimes suprise. Other than 2005, the Sox really don't have much to be proud of. Drugs much? Chris Young's OPS+ by season. 2006: 73 2007: 88 2008: 91 2009: 83 2010: 108 2011: 103 2012: 95 All tha for only $8.5 million (2013) or $11 million (2014, or $1.5 million buyout)! Cali
I always thought you couldn't make any trades before the World Series was over... Maybe it's just free agency I'm thinking of.
bigruss
QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 22, 2012 -> 10:24 AM) I always thought you couldn't make any trades before the World Series was over... Maybe it's just free agency I'm thinking of. The rules allow it, but MLB pretty much shuns it as it takes away attention from the WS/playoffs. They'd rather teams make trades afterwards so they can spread the publicity/excitement over the more slow times, rather in the middle of the biggest events. Other than 2005, the Sox really don't have much to be proud of. ...so I am going to say that this is not more than the White Sox have done, but, because the White Sox have actually won 3 series in the last 20 years - even if they came in the same season - they have actually done more than the Oakland Athletics, even if the Athletics made the playoffs 3 more times than the White Sox did. DukeNukeEm
The A's are subject to the disadvantage of playing in a real division. The White Sox are kind of lucky in that regard. Plus their payroll has been like half ours up until very recently and !shock! they put together a hell of a season.

Yes, it takes quite a division to be the only one not to produce any of the past ten World Series Champions.
Quin
Beane has made one good trade in eecent memory a d that was Bailey. His trading Gio is way woese than ours. He also has a creepy obsession with former Sox prospects.
