Against everyone else except the White Sox, Guthrie was pretty bad last year. If the White Sox ever find a way to hit him, that contract will be laughed at.

It must be where the free agent market has gotten to.

Hearing solid reviews of the Royals' three-year, $25m deal with Guthrie from rival execs. They think it's a fair price, given the market.

Was he hurt last year? Looking at his stats, he was decent until last year, and he only played in 66 games.

No, he just sucked. Historically, Raburn's always been f***ing awful in the first half. Then August and September come around and he's Barry Bonds.

#Mariners acquire IF Robert Andino from #Orioles for OF Trayvon Robinson.

Really nice trade for the Orioles. Get rid of a guy who is going to cost too much and will probably never be anything more than a backup and get a very talented outfielder in return.

If I was a Seattle fan, I'd be upset about this. I wouldn't trade anything with power for anything that slaps.

The Royals announced that they designated seven players for assignment to create 40-man roster space for players who would otherwise have been eligible for the Rule 5 draft. The Royals designated right-handers Vin Mazzaro and Chris Volstad, left-hander Ryan Verdugo, catcher Brayan Pena, infielder Clint Robinson and outfielder Derrick Robinson for assignment.

The Royals, who are also designating catcher Adam Moore for assignment, now have a full 40-man roster. They selected the contracts of left-handers Chris Dwyer, Donnie Joseph, John Lamb, Justin Marks and Mike Montgomery, and right-hander J.C. Gutierrez in related moves.

The move could amount to an early non-tender for two players. Pena was on track for a salary in the $1.1MM range as a third time arbitration eligible player. Meanwhile, Volstad projected to earn $3MM as a second time eligible player.

Tigers working on signing Stephen Drew to play SS then would trade Peralta to Arizona or Boston

I don't get the infatuation with Stephen Drew. Is he great defensively? If not, I don't see him as a big upgrade to Peralta, and plus Drew has his injury problems.

He's just like his brother. He doesn't do anything that excites you, but he's a pretty solid all-around player who has a tendency to get hurt. When he's hurt, he is't incredibly productive coming off the DL, and that's his biggest problem.

The Cubs have acquired right-hander Barret Loux from the Rangers in exchange for right-hander Jake Brigham and a player to be named later, the Cubs announced.

Cubs acquired Barrett Loux for Jake Brigham. I don't understand why they didn't just get Loux in the first place. And that's a pretty big fall for a guy that made the NL All Star Team last year. It says in the article that Lahair will pursue an opportunity in Japan.

Maybe it's because Brigham got injured after two starts for the Cubs. Kind of a good faith move by the Rangers that they didn't purposely trade away damaged goods?

Chone Figgins DFA'd by Seattle. Can now be signed for minimum.

Kenny always gets his guy!

I wouldn't mind Figgins as a cheap bench player. Better than Rey Olmedo or ODawg. That's for sure.
