Jake
If anyone ever had doubts about whether we should have matched the Marlins deal for Buehrle, this is why we didn't. If you want to compare those two deals/decisions for the White Sox, I'm glad we had the foresight/good luck to get Peavy at this age and dollar amount instead of Buehrle. Harry Chappas
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 08:57 AM) He could have gotten A LOT more on this free agent market... In terms of years, and dollars per year. The White Sox got a very good deal. Shows the Whtie Sox are not goign young. Great stand up move by Peavy. regardless of the outcome, this is a big win for the White Sox and a haircut from Peavy. Somebody would have shelled out 4 yr $50M for him. Hahn's first move is a big one.

Could have been. The fact Peavy agreed to this deal is yet another indication that the White Sox seem to be a decent place to play and players are not in too big of a hurry to leave. The White Sox seem to get deals done with those players that they want to get them done with.

Wedge
I'm concerned this means that AJ isn't coming back. That's two pretty big holes at 3B and catcher, which are really hard spots to fill. http://www.bloguin.com/theoutsidecorner/20...t-catchers.html Napoli and Martin might be upgrades from AJ, but those dudes are gonna get paid. After that, I don't like much of what's out there. Does the organization think Flowers is an everyday catcher?

There is pretty much no pitching out there on this free agent market. Jake
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 11:12 AM) FIFY Yep. Pitching looks bad when the offense can't score 3 runs in a game. The pitching could have picked up some games for us down the stretch, but their slight regression pales in comparison to the huge slump by the offense

Some people like but don't love Jake. For instance, I don't discount how even in a quality start, there's trouble brewing in the 7th and 8th with him because of the fact he won't come out of games. That means even Jake's dominant starts can turn to hell in a hurry. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 04:31 PM) Anyone that thinks this was not a good move is not paying attention. It's a very good move because of the innings he'll eat up. It's scary to think of all those innings for the fill in guys if we lose one of our real starters. Danks has to get healthy and be effective and Floyd has to take the next step if we want to have a stellar starting rotation to go with Sale. Losing Peavy would have been bad had we had to give the ball to somebody like Santiago before he learns how to pitch.

I actually appreciate a lot of the conversation on this site, and dont consider it fantasyland at all. It keeps me sane reading how people approach thier lives on this board, because it is much more than just the White Sox. People give me s*** just as much as I do to them, I dont mind. Sometimes it is aggravating, but most people can be very supportive of their opposite opinions and make them easy to understand why they feel the opposite way I do. You may treat it as fantasy, that doesnt mean everyone else does.

I wouldn't say you are supportive of my opposite opinions at all. You went after a poster so it tends to spur discussion that has nothing to do with the topic at hand: Peavy. Just a lesson for the moderators to consider how they can derail the threads at hand.
