That is the same kind of simple interpretation of election that lead people to believe that Steve Bartman cause the Cubs to lose the World Series.

hahaha nope.

tell me. if Johnson hadn't been on the ballot, who would you most likely have voted for?

Advice to Republicans for 2016:

1. Above all else, remember that getting elected President and controlling the Senate is about winning independent voters in CO, FL, IN, OH, MO, NC, NH, NV and VA. Everything you do/say as early as the very beginning of the primary season has to be with that in mind.

2. Being pro-life is fine, but concede some exceptions for mother's life/rape and for god's sake don't ever stray off the prepared script when discussing the issue. Having some exceptions you (and by you, I mean your donors) object to in pro-life legislation is much better than having no pro-life legislation at all because you didn't get elected.

3. If you happen to be against gay marriage, never ever campaign on that issue, and when asked about it, mention that your focus is on economic and national security issues.

4. Give up defending tax breaks for the rich. It's a losing issue no matter how much you believe it will, or how much it might actually, stimulate the economy.

Someone else closer to my point of view.

lol exactly. and that person would have been Romney whether you want to admit it to me or not.

Here's the reality.

There will NOT be a viable third party until a candidate comes along who has the same "rock star" persona of Obama in 2012. Ron Paul is the closest to that right now. Had he run as a third party candidate this time around, I bet he would've been really close to 5%

Until the green party gets a candidate like that, it does NOT make sense to vote for them, because a vote for a green party candidate is taking a vote AWAY from the democratic candidate, who aligns CLOSER with my views than the alternative - which is the republican candidate. Thus, a green vote, helps the republican party. See how that works yet? Or is it still too simple for you to understand?

It would not have been. I would have written in someone sooner than vote for Romney. And if Steve Bartman hadn't reached for that ball, the Cubs would have won it all!

lol ok. see this is the reason this country is so divided. people like you won't see logic and reason if it smacks them in the face.

You can't out of one side of your mouth say you want out of the two-party system, and say out the other side that a vote for a 3rd party is wasted. If you want other parties or independents to have greater voice, then you need to support them when a candidate appears that better matches your beliefs.

Bingo.

First you need to be logical before people can see your logic.

You aren't being that. Northside pointed out your hypocrisy pretty well, too.

yes... you can... because you're a pragmatist who sees the greater good. my views line up with Jill Stein's, and I would've voted for her if she had a chance in hell, but it's MORE important for me to have a president in office whose views align more closely with mine. how are you all not getting this?

Lol, didn't know you were the all knowing lord of politics.

Stein got enough support to make 20 million for the party for next election. That's a very good thing. And part of democracy is having the right to choose to support other parties.

Second, most of us live in Illinois where our presedential votes don't matter anyway, so why are those not wasted votes? Why not try and support the financial gain of a third party instead where your vote actually moves the needle?

disagree.

A vote for a 3rd party candidate is not wasted.

Just like a vote for Mit Romney was not wasted last night, despite him losing.

You have a twisted vision of our voting system. But I get it. So long as everyone votes exactly like you, their vote isn't wasted. Yes, logic.

The reason the country is divided is because instead of offering real choices, people like you allowed themselves to be brainwashed into accepting less than what they want. Close enough becomes good enough. For a guy that preaches making your choices and working hard, you sure seem ready to quit and fall in line when it comes to politics.

This is exactly how I looked at it, and it's why I lent my voice to a third party candidate. Not because I thought they would win, but because I want to send a message that there is a swath of voters out there, even it's a vast minority of us, that are unhappy with both parties.

I fail to see what's wrong with me doing that.

If you think that one of the two major party candidates is significantly worse than the other AND you live in a swing state, then voting 3rd party is probably a bad idea.

Neither of those conditions applied to me, so I was fine with voting for Johnson as a protest vote.

Yet it is the same "logic" you are putting forth. Romney had no chance to win last night, right Nate Silver? Ergo, everyone who voted for Mitt wasted their vote.

Romney had about a 10% chance based on the polls. Johnson and Stein had 0%.

Romney, Akin, Mourdock, Walsh, and West... All lost. It was such an incredible night. I had about 40 people at my house to watch this amazing election

Congrats to President Obama, Sen-elect Elizabeth Warren, Tammy Baldwin and Tim Kaine to name a few

Thank you to President Clinton for working your ass off for the Obama campaign
