It's not a black and white issue. It's not an either/or situation. If the Sox could go out and get a top notch (and very expensive) outfielder to replace Viciedo, they probably would if winning right now was the most important thing and they had the money. The team has to do what they can to compete AND build for the future.

That's why they are a run-of-the-mill outfit.

Platoon Viciedo/Dunn and get a LF'er.

I'm "hung up on" Viciedo because finding a platoon for him is the most cost effective way to improve the offense.

No way, unless you want to platoon Viciedo and Wise. There just is not a cheap way to improve the offense that makes the Sox SO much better.

yeah just like those damn Tampa Bay Rays, and those Oakland Athletics, and those LA Angels, and I could continue with more teams that build for the future AND the present at the same time.

why do you think the team can't do both? please answer that question!! a .750 OPS is not sinking this team! lol

This exactly. The very nature of the Sox payroll dictates that these kind of players are going to be in the line up. Viciedo is 23, and has played one full season at the major league level

That is the most expensive platoon in the league. It's also not going to happen.

Unless its fantasy baseball. That would also mean you need another OF'er which you have to sign as a FA (not likely) or trade for. And you have also taken your most promising young bat and one of your most valuable trade chips and limited his at bats severely while also stunting his development. I would say that is textbook poor management.

I'm not sure what you mean by that statement.

But most teams are doing both, 2012 Miami Marlins excluded. The Sox aren't going to drop their payroll to $50 million and concentrate on rebuilding for 3 years, not are they going to increase payroll to $170 million to "ensure" a World Series showing.

Don't forget, Marty is the guy who said the entire season the Sox had no chance, they need to rebuild. Now he's blaming it all on Viciedo. He needs some help.

Why do you make stuff about the messenger. You do this to most you disagree with.

I'm not making anything up. You don't post unless you have a complaint. We all understand you hate Viciedo. I guess today, you wanted some more attention. You get it, and you complain some more.

How important is Viciedo's development to whatever 5-year plan it is that the Sox have? I don't think he's important enough to forgo the opportunity to get more offensive production by finding him a platoon for next year.

This is a straight forward personal attack that's against the message board guidelines.

In all seriousness, I'd be curious to see people's lists for Why We lost in '12. I would have to imagine Viciedo ranks somewhere in the double digit range, right?

1. The year long disaster (outside of about a month) at 3b

2. Not being able to beat the Royals

3. Beckham's lack of development

4. Danks injury

5. Konerko's injury

6. Dunn's injury

7. Reeds collapse as closer

8. Too many starting pitchers who had innings limitations

9. Not being able to beat the Tigers down the stretch

That's off of the top of my head, with no looking back at anything for ideas.
