Does Victor Martinez play baseball? Does John Danks?

John Danks is the better player and is worth more to a team. . He can do everything he is supposed to do. Victor Martinez can hit. He can't play defense. Pitching is always more important than hitting just in general.

Let's expand on this, for s--- and giggles...IF Detroit offered Verlander and VMart for Danks and Dunn, would you do it?

How about Sanchez and Martinez?

Verlander >> Danks > Martinez = Dunn, so easily, yes.

Sanchez no, because he is simply not worth the extra $3 million per year

You are still changing the argument trying to get me to take Martinez over Danks or something. Seriously.

Initial: Would you rather have Zach Greinke or Albert Pujols?

Changing argument: If the Dodgers offered Greinke and Gonzalez for Pujols and Weaver, would you do it?

Additional: How about if it were Billingsley and Gonzalez?

It changes the argument COMPLETELY

I think you undervalue Martinez, and overvalue Danks.

I think your concept of value relative to the arguments you are trying to make is pretty mixed up

When Danks is 100% healthy, he's an above average (damn good!) SP. Any staff in baseball would love to have him.

When VMart is 100% healthy, he is THE best DH in baseball. A dangerous hitter, that would be welcome on any team in baseball.

IMO, every day ballplayers are more valuable than SPs. The best SP can only help you win once every 5 games, whereas a position player, even a DH, can potentially help you win every game.

Does this make sense?

Multiple people have explained that it does not make sense, and a pitcher is more valuable than a hitter. You conveniently forget that this hitter does not play defense, therefore reducing his value as an everyday player.

There is a large Dominican man in Boston who strongly disagrees with that statement.

It's more a matter of marginal value. At their best, it would be much harder to replace Danks' production than Martinez's production. Martinez is a terrific hitter when healthy, but it's not difficult to find a pretty decent hitter to plug in at DH, hell we all remember the Jim Thome fiasco.

Finding a replacement for a #3 starter (possibly low-end #2 starter) is extremely difficult. The dropoff would be much more significant.

You are asking at their very best? This is a joke, right?

Let me take a different approach...let's suppose that last season, the Tigers had a 100% healthy Victor Martinez and the Sox hada 100% healthy John Danks. Do you think the Sox or the Tigers would have won the division?

Why?

The Tigers, because the difference between the 2 players is not > 3 games.

Considering if Martinez was 100%, the Tigers wouldn't have signed Prince, I'd say the White Sox for sure.

Now, add Torii Hunter to the mix (and Fielder/Martinez) and add Keppinger and Danks, and subtract Youkilis and Pierzynski...who's better now?

If everyone plays exactly like last year, and the rosters are final as currently constructed, its obvious. But that is not the case.

If the Sox win the division last year, the game is way different at this point. The Tigers wouldn't have had nearly as much money to spend, and the Sox would have had a lot more as the bandwagon fans would have filled up the joint for the playoffs. One change invalidates everything after it.

But what about Papa Grande and Rey Olmedo
