Maybe they'll repeal obamacare for the 34th time. They are prolific at voting for DOA bills.

So how about the Senate actually have some balls and do something, like vote on House bills? Oh wait... they're on your side, so they're doing the right thing. STFU with the rhetoric, because one is no better then the other.

I believe this hard of a fight will result in the very best compromise we could hope for. I really hope there is no move to increase the debt ceiling. We may finally be putting the brakes on government borrowing.

SOLD!!!!!!!!!!

And the debt will be repaid.

Why are you in favor of this deal with no debt ceiling bill. That's insane. This bill mandates tax cuts that would push over that ceiling with ease. Why do you think defaulting on the debt is a good idea?

And what? Default on the debt? The debt ceiling is just a dumb self-imposed cap to not pay for the things Congress has already voted for.

Why would the Senate waste even more time by voting on a bill that will fail or be quickly vetoed?

Why doesn't the Senate do anything, save the last day of the year? They didn't do s*** for 2 years and it was quite on purpose. But again, we know that answer, don't we?

that you are making things up again?

No, explain to me why the House, let alone the Senate, should waste its time with dozens of "repeal pbamacare" bills.

And by the way, here's the roll call on the Senate vote to "To repeal the job-killing health care law and health care-related provisions in the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010.".

It failed.

I think Tex should take his beliefs in the debt ceiling to heart.

He should go to the most expensive restaurant in the area, have their most expensive meal. When the check comes, kindly inform the waiter that he has passed legislation mandating he cannot pay more than $10 on a meal, and hand him $10.

So pretend likes its Obamacare when the bill gets sent from the medical institution.

Fascinating stuff the last few days within the GOP.

Boehner fails to even put "plan b" on the floor and kicks the cliff to the Senate. McConnell works with Biden and the Senate whips up solid bipartisan support compromise and move it onto the house. Cantor comes out against the Senate bill, Boehner tells his caucus that they should pass the bill but doesn't insist. Cantor says he's in synch with Boehner. Bill comes up for a vote and Cantor votes against it while Boehner votes for it. Paul Ryan votes for it. Boehner abandons his "majority of the majority" rule and the bill passes only thanks to the dems in the house.

W. T. F.

The GOP is in absolute disarray right now. Unbelievable...never seen anything quite like this. Will Boehner retain the speakership or did Cantor stab in the back just well enough to steal it? We have Rubio and Rand Paul voting against the compromise and Ryan voting for it...how's this play in 2016? What in the holy f*** is going to happen with the debt ceiling??? This debate was small potatoes compared to what's going to happen with the debt ceiling.

Unreal.

No one will remember this one in 2016.

If any of these "Debates" are remembered, it's because they wound up shutting the government down on one of them.

Its called vote counting. Once there are enough votes on the table to pass the bill, it leaves the rest of the GOP room to vote against the bill so they can be on record as being against it for the next elections. They'd be stupid to do it any other way with their platform.

House Speaker John Boehner couldn’t hold back when he spotted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the White House lobby last Friday.

It was only a few days before the nation would go over the fiscal cliff, no bipartisan agreement was in sight, and Reid had just publicly accused Boehner of running a “dictatorship” in the House and caring more about holding onto his gavel than striking a deal.

“Go f— yourself,” Boehner sniped as he pointed his finger at Reid, according to multiple sources present.

Reid, a bit startled, replied: “What are you talking about?”

Boehner repeated: “Go f— yourself.”

The harsh exchange just a few steps from the Oval Office — which Boehner later bragged about to fellow Republicans — was only one episode in nearly two months of high-stakes negotiations laced with distrust, miscommunication, false starts and yelling matches as Washington struggled to ward off $500 billion in tax hikes and spending cuts.

But they broke the "Hastert Rule" to get this bill passed.

It's like walking into a restaurant knowing you have $10 left on your credit limit and buying a $20 meal and expecting the credit card company to bail you out. Or acting shocked there even is a limit. You have to be pretty stupid to keep doing that. It should be a warning to stop the spending. You have to live within your limits. But some people can't seem to grasp that eventually you have to pay back the loans. It's one thing I really dislike about liberals who want all this stuff but can't seem to grasp that it isn't free. The government should not routinely spend more than what taxpayers send in.

What's pretty stupid is to suppress your economy for no good reason in the middle of a recession or a weak recovery, causing another recession.

It's not like walking into a restaurant because I'm not a sovereign government capable of printing my own currency and issuing bonds. The US government has no credit limit that it doesn't impose on itself. It has pressures from treasury interest but, right now at least, those pressures are non-existent. The US debt can either be paid back in full, monetized through inflation over time, or grow naturally with the growth of the economy. Paying off the entire national debt would be hugely deflationary and undesirable, anyway. National debt is just another way of adding to the money supply. While it has its own risks, of course, it can't be analogized to personal or business finances.

edit: also, LOL at spending and deficits being a liberal-caused problem.

The problem is you think defaulting on the debts will show some abstract thing called "government" to live within it's means, but really all you are doing is denying payment to vulnerable old people, people with disabilities, and military. Congress has already authorized these payments, if you want to stop that, stop it where it starts. So what you've accomplished is: teaching "something, er someone?" a lesson, and the price you paid was preventing dependent people and those that protected the country from getting their money.

So you're in favor of the defense department and medicare shutting down at the end of February?

Abstract? I don't see where government is abstract?

The only people hurt by this are not government, though we will all feel much pain (for no reason). Who do you think you are sticking it to?
