I've never even heard of this.

Question: What is #GivingTuesday?

Answer: #GivingTuesday (#GT) is a movement to create a national day of giving to kick off the giving season added to the calendar on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The second annual GivingTuesday is on December 3, 2013. In the same way that retail stores take part in Black Friday, we want the giving community to come together for #GivingTuesday. We ask that partners create and commit to a project for/on #GivingTuesday and then help spread the word to their networks.

Question: What is #GivingTuesday’s mission?

Answer: #GivingTuesday is a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support non-profit organizations.

Question: How did #GivingTuesday start?

Answer: New York’s 92nd Street Y was the catalyst and incubator for #GivingTuesday, bringing the expertise of 139 years of community-management to the project and providing #GivingTuesday a home. The United Nations Foundation joined as partners, bringing their strategic and communications clout to the project. An amazing team of influencers then offered their ideas, contacts and wisdom to help shape and improve the concept. A powerful list of corporations and non-profits agreed to be founding partners, helping spread the word and committing to their own #GivingTuesday initiatives. Since then, countless organizations, friends and leaders have all added their support and talents to make #GivingTuesday a reality.

Question: Did #GivingTuesday make a difference last year?

Answer: In 2012, we had more than 2,500 recognized #GivingTuesday partners from all 50 states of the United States. The collective efforts of partners, donors and advocates helped fuel a marked increase in charitable giving on GivingTuesday.

Blackbaud processed over $10 million in online donations on 11/27/12 – a 53% increase when compared to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving the previous year. DonorPerfect recorded a 46% increase in online donations and the average gift increased 25%. More than 50 million people worldwide spread the word about GivingTuesday – resulting in milestone trending on Twitter. Not too shabby, right?

Question: Who can participate?

Answer: Everyone! #GivingTuesday is an initiative to start the giving season and we encourage everyone to be involved with it. However, to be an official partner, you must be a registered non-profit [a 501©3 in the United States] with a specific #GivingTuesday initiative, or a for-profit business, school, religious or community group who commit to spearhead a project that will benefit at least one registered charity or non-profit. Families and individuals are encouraged to be generous in whatever ways matter to them, whether that means volunteering at a local charity or donating to a favorite cause.

This happened...

(Reuters) - A group of Calabrian mafia assassins beat a rival with a spade and fed him alive to pigs, Italian police said after rounding up 20 people for various mob crimes including five murders.

...

Investigators arrested one of Raccosta's suspected assassins after they captured him bragging about the hit in a telephone wiretap.

"It was such a pleasure to hear him scream," the suspect said. "In my opinion, there's nothing left of him ... This pig can really eat!" ...

And a thoroughly performed

to go along with the article, taken from 2001's Hannibal. It's not pretty, so keep that in mind if you choose to watch it.

Here's my hunting season update for those (no one) who cares: shot a doe Friday night, wasn't much blood and it was getting dark quick. Waited for the morning to go find her. Finally found a blood trail and walked up to about 1/3 of the deer.

I hate you, wolves.

I don't get this. If you're going to shoot a living creature at least have the decency to round it up.

I got into it awhile ago at work with a guy who hunts. I don't get it and asked why he felt the need to kill innocent animals just minding their business. He got to a point where he said I wasn't "manly" enough to get it, blah blah blah.

He's pretty simple minded.

Just not my gig.

I've no problem with people who hunt deer and other animals like that and who will use the meat. I would definitely enjoy the camping, tracking and wilderness aspects, I enjoy target shooting, but I'd rather just shoot a picture of an actual animal. But I also enjoy the end-product, so I wouldn't judge there.

Big game trophy hunters? Poachers? Should be legal to hunt them.

Some of it really is necessary. If you don't decrease the deer/pheasant/goose/whatever population, not only do they become overpopulated and cause direct damage on roadways and in towns, but they will also increase the number of predatory animals and decrease their distance from towns. Just recently we had sightings of a bobcat near an elementary school, which was the first local bobcat in years. If there weren't hunting allowed, we'd have a lot more and they'd be a lot closer to us.

Game, Fish, and Wildlife does a great job of getting population numbers and limiting the number each year. Pheasants are around 3 per person, and you actually have to enter a drawing/raffle/lottery for deer.

This is basically how I feel about it 100%. Killing for use is one thing, killing for sport is barbaric.

My main issue with it is if you're going to f***ing murder a doe, take the time to pick its carcass up off the ground. It's the f***ing woods, obviously something is going to come start chewing on the poor animal that's slowly bleeding out, because it was too dark/cold for poor little Slav to go put out of its misery.

If it's too dark/cold to bring in your kill - then don't f***ing kill it.

I hunt and yes I eat the deer meat... I understand it was getting dark, but at least go look for the thing for a while. You're supposed to check those things in ASAP.

Yeah, see - that makes sense to me. If you're going to do it, do it. Don't f***ing leave it to rot. His license should be revoked.

Wow. Didn't expect that type of response.

I shot the deer legally and humanely. I searched for blood for over 20 minutes after I shot it but I lost sight of her very quickly after the shot and didn't see that she circled back. I was hunting in the UP of Michigan, where it was well below freezing. There was not a chance in hell the deer was going to rot.

We eat every bit of venison from the deer that we harvest. This wasn't shooting an animal just to shoot an animal. And much like wite said, the deer herd needs to be managed in the UP, where they can very quickly get overpopulated. There are wolves, coyotes, black bears and cougars in those woods and in the 20+ years we have hunted on that land, NOT ONCE has a deer ever been touched. Waiting until the morning to search for a deer is extremely common.

I don't blame anyone for "not getting" hunting. That's fine. But if you're going to rip someone for it, I hope none of you have ever gone fishing or eaten fast food.

I thought you were being nice by feeding the wolves. We never hear about people feeding those hungry wolves. ;)

Every year a few deer are injured and are able to elude even the best trackers. Assuming you took a shot clearly within your ability level I wouldn't beat yourself up too much over it. There are a couple vegans here and I appreciate their position on hunting animals. Our corporate ranching isn't humane for making those burgers. The vasy majority of humans on this planet at carnivors. Killling animals is something we do with great frequency. We've lost touch with our food supply when we aren't willing to kill an animal ourselves.

How many here would be willing to take an orange traffic cone, flip it upside down, jam a chicken's head through the opening and cut off the head, clean, and cook the bird? Yet we can enjoy those chicken nuggets.

When the people killing my food start doing all their own statistics, then I'll start killing my own food.

Makes more sense now that you've explained it. I thought that you lived way up north, so I figured rotting wouldn't be a problem. Shotgun season is now over here in Indiana. Got a buck 30 minutes into opening day, then the last day I see two monster bucks that I'm not allowed to legally shoot.... That's always how it goes.

If you hadn't taken that first one, you would have never seen the last two. My brother-in-law did the exact opposite of you last year - saw a nice buck the first day - but he didn't shoot, assuming he'd see another good one later. Nope.

Take the first good one you see.
