book to tv/movie translation is rarely smooth when kids are involved. I just accept it. the kids that were in harry potter were all in their 20s when the movies ended, its just hard to keep the same actors and maintain a solid age consistency when filming a series.

And I get that, it's just my hope that HBO filmed as much as possible as early as possible to keep the changes at a minimum. It's nitpicky, I won't disagree with that.

I keep hearing this rumor, and I have no idea if it's true.

If it is, then it sucks and HBO should be ashamed.

Are you kidding? You'd rather have great material condensed or omitted than have to see young actors who are an extra year older?

Splitting the book into 2 seasons was absolutely the right decision.

Is it too much to wish that they would just expand the season to accomodate the book? It's HBO, they can do whatever they want to do.

The showrunners have said that they can't really manage more than 10 episodes in their 12-month production cycle. Yeah it would be great if they could squeeze in 13 or so, but I'd rather than 20 over 2 years than 13 over 1.

They also have to buy GRRM's slow-writing ass as much time as possible. :bang

Well obviously I don't know the intricacies of the film business, it's just my preference for s3 to be complete rather than split (and I'm not saying in 13 episodes, but longer).

And GRRM is one of the greatest and most frustrating writers. I really wish HBO didn't agree to air some side projects of his and just tell him to finish A Song of Fire and Ice and then let's talk.

Yeah, on the plus side, I've read that Martin told the showrunners what the (yet unwritten) endgame of the series is, so if he bites it, they'll at least know what direction to steer.

SoS has so much going on there was no way they could fit it into one season and do it the justice it deserves. RW will be episode 9. Think of all that happens after that.

Purple Wedding. Arrival of the Martells. Tyrion's trial. Tyrion/Tywin altercation. Sansa/Littlefinger in the Eyrie. Battle of Castle Black

. Finishing up Storm of Swords is going to take up at least half of Season 4

Yeah. I hate Karen though too.

Hopefully Steve is okay, just for the sake of the bodyguard staying on the show. Him, Jody, and Kevin are my favorites. They make the show.

Martin put WAY too much into book 3 and then nothing in 4 or 5.

I bet this season ends with the red wedding, next season will end with Tyrion escaping Kings Landing.

I have to say though, they've done a good job at cutting the fat off. Not having Davos sit in a cell for 2-3 episodes was a good decision. As was getting the exiled Kings Guard commander (name escapes me) in front of Dany right away.

Barristan Selmy.

And I agree, though I would like Strong Belwas to be in the show.

I haven't seen the last two, but the bulk of Shameless has been good but not great. I love the characters, but 90% of the Frank stories are dumb and far too often it's "what poor person problem can we give the Gallahgars that they can miraculously overcome?"

The last bit of this season has been great with Jimmy and Mandy/Karen (even though Karen is awful) though.

Ser Barristan Selmy.

Not-really-spoilers spoilers for non-book-readers about how Selmy actually shows up

Selmy shows us disguised as a guy named Arstan with a huge guy named Strong Belwas. He doesn't reveal himself as Selmy until much later.

Actual spoiler related to Selmy showing up

In the books, when he comes clean as Selmy, he also tells Dany that Mormont was spying on her for Westeros and that ignites a minor s***storm. How are they going to handle that now?

I think it would be a bad decision for Selmy to start his introduction to Dany with that. I wouldn't be surprised if this comes up in the next episode or 2. There are a few characters that the writers seem to favor more in the show than in the book, Shae and Mormont being a few of them. It'll be interesting how they twist the story line with them.

I hope Karen dies a terrible death. Hope that b**** gets stabbed to death 1000 or something.

And I hate that Frank did the right thing. It didn't add up at all. He had no revelation that made him change. One showing of being nice by Carl, and all the sudden Frank was willing to got to jail for him? Debbie loved Frank forever but he never gave a damn about her. Yeah, maybe it's the father/son dynamic, but it seemed WAY to easy to change Frank like that. I didn't like it.
