I also think its very interesting how early they've introduced Theon's torture and subsequent castration. This wasnt flashed back to until Dances.

They pretty much had to.

Theon getting knocked out and Winterfell getting burned was a cliffhanger of sorts. If they waited until Dances to reveal what happened with him, that would be 3 YEARS (end of season 2 => beginning of season 5) of not seeing Theon.

On the other hand though, they can't have him being tortured for all of season 3 and season 4, can they? That would be boring.

Maybe they'll gradually make him reek over the course of next season?

And I saw that the Red Wedding is in fact episode 9

Reading the Wiki, I totally forgot about "Cold Hands" saving Sam and Gilly.

I think Sam dropped the Obisidian dagger so that they can introduce Coldhands when they're attacked by a White Walker later on. That's also why they had the Ravens and Weirwood tree present when The Other came. It was like a warning.

s***, this is all making me want to pick up the last two books again.

And this isnt a spoiler but I LOVE the Arya story arc in Dances so I am pretty excited for that to pick up at some point.

"Who's your God, girl?" "Death." "There's a darkness in you."

I love Arya.

Some might consider this minor, but

in a series that kills off important characters regularly, revealing that Arya is alive in Dances is mildly spoilerish

I love Arya.

I think people are going to be disapointed in Dany's arc when she just sits there for an entire season in Mereen basically just banging Darrio

There are so many things still to happen in this "book"

1. Joffrey, Robb's, Balon, Cat and Tywin's deaths.

2.Tyrion's trial then escape

3. Littlefinger's arc in the Ery

4. Stannis saving the wall

5. Dany moving on to Mereen

So much left.

Everyone should do themselves a favor and avoid GOT message boards. I've never seen a more miserable and insufferable group of people. Everything I read on those sites makes me think, "This is why we can't have good things." Any slight book deviation makes grown people throw tantrums that would make a brat proud.

Theres way too much information in the books to put it ALL in the show. Its got to be thought of as an interpretation at this point though I would like a little more continuity. If the books were translated into the show or movies directly we would be looking at like 20 seasons.

Plus it's not like the books are perfect.

This and there are parts of the books that are just illogical and stupid. It's pretty obvious Martin hasn't really been around much vagina in his life.

I love it for what it is but there are parts where you can tell he went back and changed outcomes. Overall we will be talking about this for the next 5 years while he finishes the series which sucks.

5 years? He's got two more books at least, right? We'll be lucky if the story is finished by 2020 or if he doesn't die first.

Supposedly he is more than half way done with Winds of Winter.

Here's what we know so far about the Winds of Winter release date. A Dance With Dragons came out on July 12, 2011 at the pleasant easy reading length of 1,510 pages. At that point, Martin supposedly had 200 pages for Winds of Winter already complete, chapters originally intended for Dance but pushed ahead for story and pacing reasons. The book is expected to be, roughly speaking, the same length as Dance and Storm or even longer; all of them except A Game of Thrones are in roughly the same ballpark, anyway.

As of October 2012, the Winds of Winter release date was still a long way off -- Martin announced he had written about 400 pages out of 1500, out of which around 200 were "really finished." Nevertheless, in the same interview, he said that "the sixth volume won't be released in 2012 or in 2013. I really look forward to publishing it in 2014, but I am really bad for predictions... when I finish this saga I will be judged for the quality of the books, not for the speed of my writing."

George R. R. Martin is a notorious over estimator of how fast he writes, although it does seem reasonable -- as he himself expects -- that the book will take substantially less time than the five years for Feast and the five years for Dance. The Meereenese knot, after all, is solved. And Martin doesn't want the TV show to catch up with him; it's a concern he's very aware of, so even though he's taken on a lot of other projects, he's still chugging forward. As he told Airlock Alpha,

I am aware of the TV series moving along behind me like a giant locomotive, and I know I need to lay the track more quickly, perhaps, because the locomotive is soon going to be bearing down on me. The last thing I want is for the TV series to catch up with me. I've got a considerable head start, but production is moving faster than I can write. I'm hoping that we'll finish the story at about the same time ... we'll see

One of my favorite comments on one of the "pre-order" pages for Winds of Winter

Do you think that it would harm George R.R. Martin's creative process if we forcibly locked him in a plastic bubble to keep him healthy and germ free until books 6 and 7 are complete?
