Iwritecode
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) You never had to be connected 100% of the time. Well technically you just had to connect to "check in" every 24 hours. But if you left for vacation for any extended period of time then you had to just leave it connected the whole time and hope you power never went out. Jake
And nobody is even talking about how creepy the Kinect sensor is. I don't want a Kinect. I'm not going to play Kinect games, I don't want it noticing me when I walk into the room, I don't want to pay $100 extra to have it come standard with the system. You don't think voice activation would useful? How about voice or gesture activation for pulling up a HUD in a first person shooter? Switching through maps? Pulling up apps without going through several menus? You don't even know what it's capable of, but you're saying its not useful? Ok.

You don't even know what it's capable of, but you're saying its not useful? Ok. Nope. I don't want to talk to my game/TV. I can take the extra .25 seconds to hit a button on my controller. And I realize the technology will get better, but the original Kinect didn't work very well. If it was 100% accurate all the time when you said something like "xbox on" or "play HBO," MAYBE i'd use it. But it's not that accurate and it becomes more of a pain in the ass than it's worth. That, and I don't feel like paying 100 bucks for it. That's great if Microsoft wants to push this voice activation stuff. Just don't force me to pay for it. The fact is Kinect is a marketing gimmick and I really wish people could see that. Get your teen girls and your old people to buy in and it's a business success but it doesn't advance the gaming experience for real gamers. Just like motion controls. Name me a "best game of the year" candidate that successfully integrated either technology to make a significant improvement in the game. The best example of motion control was the latest Zelda game and that was fun for all of 30 minutes. For Kinect, what, Dance Dance Revolution? StrangeSox
I see the creepiness factor of Kinect (and I feel the same way about the Galaxy S4's ability to know when you look away from the screen) as an offshoot of the Uncanny Valley effect. SexiAlexei
It baffles me that all these people who jumped ship from XBOX one, are now jumping right back on because they removed the DRM. I wouldn't support a company who thinks this was a good idea. Obviously they didn't think it was either, but now they're right in on XBOX. Who's to say they won't put this all right back in once they get enough sales? They could easily phase this in over a year or two, piece by piece, to lessen the blow. It would remind me of needing a code to play games online. I feel like it started with EA and Madden. You needed a code to play online. If you rented the game, you would have to buy a new code. Now I see this in a lot of online games, and people aren't really bothered by it anymore. I was reminded of this because I went to try to rent The Last of Us from redbox. Right on their website it says you'll need to buy a code to play some of the online parts of the game. XBox could start with their next Halo. Say you buy the game, it's saved to your account, and you can't resell it. Then say something like, by the way, if you buy this game, we're going to need you to check in every 24 hours to make sure your copy is the only one, or it will be deactivated until you log on again. Slowly creep it onto their other games, and it's right back where they wanted to be. I guess this is just me not trusting a company that thinks it's a good idea in the first place. But hey, to each their own. I'm sure there are positives to it as well.

Badger, I was joking about your $400 blu ray. My god, man. Im not taking it personally, I just get tired of ad hominen statements/arguments. Present a good argument for why Xboxone is better than PS4, maybe people will take it seriously. Like I quoted, the PS4 is arguably the more powerful machine, so the argument is just perplexing. The Wii and its motion controls came out in 2006. Sony had its sixaxis controller out at launch in 2006. And the Playstation move and Kinect were launched in 2010. Those are commercial launch dates, so developers had them at least a year before that. So...that's plenty of time to come up with a cool use. TaylorStSox
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) What game are you referring to? Skyrim. Bioshock Infinte works in this case too. I never bothered with the original Kinect as it didn't interest me, but I'm not naive to some interesting possibilities. It can read heart rate and body temperature, for example. It would be a great tool for working out and getting real time feedback about your gains. There are great possibilities with gaming and interaction with other forms of media. I dont think anyone (especially in this thread) is saying the xbone is better. It is a person to person preference. If anything anyone in this thread that tries to discuss microsoft gets torn to shreds unless they are ripping them apart. I know I was in the minority but I preferred the original xbone ideas they had before they changed it sans some of the details about the kinect. None of the things that people complained about would have effected the way I personally use the console but I realize a lot of people were turned off by it so if it helps the community then its fine with me. That is a completely legitimate stance and I have no problem with someone saying they prefer Xbox. What I dont understand is why someone who is arguing for Xbox would say that Ps4 is just a "$400 blu ray player" that makes no sense in the context of the argument. Bring me something with substance, say I want an Xbox for X, Y, Z reasons. There is always a chance I am missing something. I have no problem discussing Microsoft, just once again, no one has brought me a good argument why its better to have extremely restrictive DRM, why its better to have to be connected at least 1 time every 24 hours, etc etc. I merely was saying "Those ideas dont seem to make sense" and when I said that I was basically told that "Im not forward thinking and just dont understand" Those are nothing more than ad hominen conclusions. I just am asking for some real discussion about the system, not Xbox fans telling everyone else how they just dont understand. Or posting some sort of quote from a microsoft employee with a "We had so many great ideas that you ruined, but I cant articulate 1 of them." I guess I just dont see that as very productive in determining what system I want to buy. I have presented reasons why I would buy PS4, I am just waiting for someone to present some good reasons why buying Xbox is better than PS4. Jenksismyhero
Also here's this: http://kotaku.com/rumor-about-xbox-one-fam...s-fla-534484570 Family share wasn't just demo access for a short period of time, it truly was family/friend sharing. Which just debunks that idiot's letter about saving developers and getting rid of the used game industry.
