They made one like 2 years ago that was going to revolutionize football games. But it didn't sell. You want to play the Bears (or whatever team you root for) not random football teams/players.

If I am remembering what you are referring to, that game was absolute crap, the physics engine was really bad and everything about it could have been compared to Madden 02.

anyhow, competition is needed.

Id imagine hes talking about Backbreaker. The physics engine was incredible but the rest of the game was garbage. They made a 2nd Backbreaker game with just skill events and it was actually a lot of fun. If EA could get their hands on that physics engine it could have the potential to be incredible.

No, not Backbreaker, I am assuming he meant 2K All-Pro Football 2008. It was a full fledged sim football game, not arcade-like.

I haven't touched a Madden game in years. From the idiotic and frustrating QB vision to all the other complicated s*** it's hard to pick up Madden and play.

However, as someone who buys FIFA every year and never regrets it I am always amazed by how many game modes and features are in FIFA each year. Sure, the game play slowly progresses and after I put a couple hundred hours into the game I end up getting sick of the things that annoy me and don't want to play it anymore, but there are so many different game modes that game take up your time. I get infuriated by the dumb s*** that happens in a game sometimes, but I put so many hours into the game before I get fed up with it that it's absolutely worth the money every year.

I'm not sure if Madden is the same way, but I'm defending another annual EA sports franchise.

People will gladly defend The Show or NBA2K year after year because they do cool things to improve the overall experience. Madden just doesn't do anything that creative anymore, and this is the second or third different time that they've tried to bring in old players to hype their product.

The Ultimate Team is/was kind of a cool online feature, but after a certain point it's damn near impossible to field a competitive team because your starters are crap compared to other teams'.

Eh, if you consider an entirely new physics engine, completely revamped running style and moves, brand-new read-option packages, and online modes out the yin yang nothing (among many other tweaks), then yeah, I guess nothing changed this year!

MLB the Show has been largely the same game since 09, yet they don't get crushed. When you get games to this level of perfection, it's the tweaks that count. NBA 2k - I mean, I play this game every year. It's not that much different, and I'd say the year with CP3 on the cover (08) was the best-looking and most enjoyable of the group.

Compare the changes that go into Madden, there's a f***ton this year, by the way, to the changes in either of the games you mention above, and you'll find them to likely be more. I mean, my God, MLB the Show? It's the same f***ing game every year.

I must have been the only one, but I hated the engine. There are other changes you can make without totally revamping the entire thing. Plus they got rid of Gus for Phil and Jim, which made it even worse.

Whatever, this is a tired argument. I'm not going to buy Madden this year because I don't want to spend $60 on it. Maybe if/when it comes down in price, I'll consider it (which is the other awesome thing about NBA2K, considering midseason, I bought NBA2K for $30 online)

I played one game online last night - guy chose redskins (shocker, everybody wants RG3 online, apparently)

I won 10-7, it was quite epic. I couldn't do s*** on the ground but Cutty cared and went like 22-27. He, of course, quit when I user-picked his dumbass with Peanut to end it.

Somehow, so satisfying.

Do they still make you do the QB vision or is that not the default setting anymore? I f***ing hated that, I quit playing when it was introduced. Yeah, I know you can turn it off.

QB vision died the year after it was introduced, which was like Madden 06.

Yep, that's the one I'm thinking of. It was ok, but wasn't very polished.

MLB the Show has added the same stuff Madden has - updated visuals, a few tweaks to the franchise/career/RTTS modes, roster updates, etc. but is otherwise the same. It's also an entirely different animal since you control every player and are not really dependent on the AI to assist you. Madden has had 25 games and although there has been change and innovation over the years, it's still a broken game in many respects. Yes, it's 10 times more complicated to write the code for the game, but i'd much rather they fix blocking/tackling/physics engine issues than provide me with a new "skin" to the menus.

And i'm sorry, but the announcing team was awful last year and apparently its even worse this year (I get my game tonight so i'll be able to tell right away). That is also inexcusable for a franchise with endless amounts of money and very little work done year to year.

Obviously Madden is still a good to great game. It's just annoying that they can't fix the important s*** before addressing the fluff. They've been brilliant at marketing the game every year (or it's really, really easy because it's the only NFL game out there), but it's still kind of surprising they sell as many games as they do when I know a lot of people wait 1-2 years before buying a new one.

When you think of the phrase "E-A SPORTS: IT'S IN THE GAME" what is the first game that comes to mind? They've used it for virtually all of their sporting games at one point or another, but I bet close to 90% of people will say Madden.

lies

Not even close to a lie. I think of early NHL games in my youth and sometimes playing my Dad in Madden 94.

NHL 94 first and foremost, though. It was all about Jeremy Roenick points.

Depends on if you're talking in this country or internationally. FIFA outsells all other EA Sports franchises combined each year.
