witesoxfan
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) We got weaken at C, 3B and our bench. While other teams in our divison added key pieces to their team Besides Dunn we have no left handed power Overall, they may get weaker at catcher, but Flowers is far superior defensively and has quite a bit of talent offensively. We'll give that one though. With regard to 3B, you are looking at 1.2 WAR from Kevin Youkilis, -0.2 WAR from Orlando Hudson, -0.7 WAR from Brent Morel. If, as you state, the White Sox got weaker at 3B, then you are assuming that Keppinger is a no-win player. I'm just going to say now that I'm quite sure you'll be wrong on that. I also think the bench and the depth of the bench has strengthened. I don't understand that argument. Could they be worse? Sure. Will they be 13 wins worse? I would bet that they won't be. SOXOBAMA
I could see AJ having a decent season. With Flowers & Dunn in the lineup, both could've over 200K's
witesoxfan
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 02:57 PM) We should trade for JIMI HENDRIX with AVRIL LAVIGNE and NICKELBACK and LINKIN PARK. Kyyle23
does 200 Ks add up to -13 wins? We should trade for JIMI HENDRIX with AVRIL LAVIGNE and NICKELBACK and LINKIN PARK. And we should have spent TUPAC in free agency Hahn should be elevated to god status for unloading Levigne, Nickelback and Linkin Park
southsider2k5
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) I could see AJ having a decent season. With Flowers & Dunn in the lineup, both could've over 200K's He is going to regress from last year. He put up one year near those numbers and that was 10 years ago. He hasn't had a year within 60 OPS points of that since 2006. Looking at his last five years prior to 2012, a regression of 100 points would just be going back to his "norm". That's how far out of whack his 2012 was. Tyler Flowers put up a .708 OPS last year in really, really limited time, with no consistency what-so-ever in his playing schedule. It isn't a crazy thought that Ty could out OPS AJ this year. And that is without any consideration to his defense and throwing being vastly superior to AJ. SOXOBAMA
Who was our bench last year? Jose Lopez? Rey Olmedo? Orlando Hudson? I'd rather have Flowers on the bench over whoever our backup C is. Compare our bench to what the Tigers have

Rowand44
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) We did not get weaker at 3B when you take the sum of the entire season. Same with the bench. I am also betting money that AJ does nothing near what he did in 2012. He wont but our catching position from 2012 to 2013 will definitely be a downgrade though I certainly wouldn't be surprised if 2013 Tyler Flowers is better than 2013 AJ Pierzynski. But yes, 3b will definitely be an upgrade and our bench sucked last year as I'm sure it'll suck this year. That all being said, our pitching staff should be an upgrade over last year for sure. I really have no clue where this team is going to finish but it wont be with 72 or less wins, that's absolutely absurd.

I wish people would quit using that as a crutch when even resigning AJ wouldn't have brought that AJ back.
SOXOBAMA
So the tigers bench is worth -13 wins to the Sox? No, but their stronger bench will help them win the division. That's what matters.

witesoxfan
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 03:22 PM) Garcia & Berry will be better than what we will have on our bench How many wins do you see the Sox having, as of today? Berry has a career minor league OPS of .687. He literally has no power. He's essentially a worse version of Juan Pierre. Garcia is at .708 with a K/BB of 5.7. He doesn't walk and he strikes out a lot. He may be young, but he has not proven to be a good player. I don't think either are that good, though Berry si more useful than Garcia. I've said before I think they are anywhere between 83-85 wins. I think they'll end up in 2nd place, but I could see them in 1st with a bit of luck or as far down as 4th with a lot of bad luck. The Indians added some talent but they're still pretty bad, the Twins still have no pitching, and the Royals are still generally unproven with less depth in the minors. The Tigers are the only team I see as clearly superior and I see a lot that can go wrong with them too.

Don't just say "add some," suggest what they hell they need that is available. There is virtually nothing available right now that is worth the money and Hahn and company are acting wisely to sit idly by while prices either drop or the season approaches. Works both ways The chances of the current lineup having 3 starting players that will hit under .250 possibly under .240 and even under .230 [Dunn, Beckham & Flowers] is very high. How many other contending teams have 3 every day starters with those numbers?
southsider2k5
Along that line, I also would like to the sox reach out to Mark Lowe, Brandon Inge, and/or Kelly Johnson about some IF and RHRP spots.
