If you read more of her back story, I'm not entirely sure her suicide is a result of the assault, which OTL made a leap with. Honestly, I thought it was irresponsible reporting on their part. "Here are some facts that we are going to place next to each other. We're not going to outright say there's a connection because we can't prove it, but we know you're going to think it now!" She already had a mental disorder and maybe the assault put her over the top, but they shouldn't be writing a piece connecting the two. Who knows.

I was more concerned with the fact that the assault actually happened and that it involved football players than how the university handled it. Seems weird to write this whole report and focus on how it was handled, which was fair/ok not great, while the actually act of the awful thing is kind of secondary. That's messed up.

I think the TV aired version was much clearer than the initial online report. There are two main things going on, this woman was going through issues with borderline personality disorder and trauma from the assault, and the assault itself.

For part 1, I think the true failure is that of the swim coach. He came on after she had been recruited and seemed to not care to have to have this on her plate. Also, in general the swim team's reputation for handling athletes when I was there wasn't even great among my friends. While I don't think the removal they had her sign was actually a bad thing (it really does allow you to pause and restart easier), she didn't understand that. And that communication is crucial.

For part 2, I am not convinced that there was much neglect on reporting this issue. Mizzou was dealing with issues of both jurisdiction and HIPAA privacy laws. She was an adult, going to therapists, there is not duty to report there. On the other hand, isn't there a middleground? With as many mental health issues that arise when people are 18-24, isn't there a better way to coordinate treatments to get the best help?

(part 2 disappears if the coach was actually told. I get that she wasn't a student at the time, but maybe our swim program needs to be cleaned up, and the relevant players in football charged/any coaches who may have known).

In an unusual and bold plan unveiled this morning, the University of Notre Dame said it will meet several athletic and academic space needs by adding three new buildings connected to its iconic football stadium.

The multi-use buildings, which will rise slightly above the stadium, will include classrooms, a career center, dining hall, event spaces, recreational sports facilities, and a digital media center — all integrated with new, premium stadium seating and club space for football fans.

The $400-million plan — the largest building project in the university’s 172-year history — will turn the area around the stadium, now used solely for about seven home football games a year, into a central place for academic and student life. The three buildings will be attached to the east, west and south sides of the stadium and will add up to 4,000 revenue-generating seats to the “The House that Rockne Built,” among the country’s most revered stadiums.

It's good to see that Notre Dame is not letting "tradition" stand in the way of enhancing the facilities. Because it's about the team--IT'S NOT ABOUT THE f***ING BUILDING!

As expected, Tennessee announced it's switching form Adidas to Nike. I'm pumped... Adidas has lost 2 of their 3 biggest football teams in the last month.

Maybe Adidas will be able to pick up the teams currently on the trash factory known as Under Armor.

They very well might. I have not heard good things about Under Amour in the basketball world. Apparently their basketball shoes are poor and not comfortable to players, which is why I was a little surprised that Notre Dame chose UA. While they might not be a "basketball" school, their team is always pretty good.

Personally, I don't like UA cleats. They don't fit me well. I much prefer my Nike's. Otherwise, I don't have an issue with their apparel, other than some of the awful uniforms they create.

Nike is the best for both sports IMO. We've seen an incredible assortment of equipment for both football and bball at OSU. Its been really beneficial and the kids love it.
