The bowl bids are worth like $10-20mil, so Im pretty sure that is important.

The BCS (or whatever they're going to call it) bowl bid is worth that much, but ND does not get access to that. ACC champ is still guaranteed that bid. ND is in the rotation with second place teams from the Big 10 and SEC to be the opponent in that game.

So in other news, Illinois has just lost its fifth assistant assistant coach this offseason... I've been a big supporter of the "Beckman should get three years" group, but man does his ship seem to be taking on water fast.

Isn't that a good thing? The team was so f***ing bad, why would you want these coaches sticking around?

Theoretically, yes. But, this disrupts recruiting continuity, and the chances of hiring a good coach are somewhat diminished after you have a 2-10 season with the majority of the fan base/media calling for your head...

Illinois just lost their OL coach to Purdue, to take on the same role.

Wow. It never ends.

A person familiar with the decision says Illinois offensive line coach Jim Bridge is leaving just over a month after he was hired.

Bridge is taking a job at Purdue, according to the person who was not authorized to publicly discuss the departure and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday.

Bridge was hired Jan. 23 by Illinois coach Tim Beckman. He will become an assistant on first-year Purdue coach Darrell Hazell’s staff.

The Illini start spring practices Tuesday and had announced last week they’d finished filling out their staff.

Beckman has already turned over more than half his staff after a 2-10 season. The school said he was not available for comment.

Beckman is a clown left after little over a month!

Gotta pay the men if you want to keep them. With that said, Purdue lost their OL coach to MSU a week ago as well.

It's not that. We just got him, he wasn't here last year. Something bad happened - either he just took it because it was the best available and waited to jump, or he saw enough in a few weeks to say "I need out."

The NCAA is really turning into a joke. They investigate Cam Newton, find nothing, and then all this comes out, which happened at the same time as the Cam Newton stuff... Amazing.

Emmert really needs to go. He's lost institutional control which essentially tries to screw teams out of championships when they lose institutional control.

The NCAA just needs to cease pretending that they are an amateur organization so that this nonsense can be properly addressed. Start treating it like it really is and these pretend investigations will stop and they can start giving these kids some of what they earn for the university

As long as you're okay with a complete loss of competitive balance, worse than it is now

It's already ridiculously unbalanced in football, which is where most of the money is.

lol, what balance do you speak of?

worse than it is

Also, this effects more than just football. Basketball clearly has more competitive balance and also generates revenue that players "deserve."

Unrelated, here's this: ESPN overplaying "synthetic marijuana" story?
