This year he is in development camp.

Next spring, he could be in DSL, or state-side, depending on where they think he is development-wise. There is no definite answer, it depends on the player.

And with Zapata being an American citizen, it could also change things as well

I'd think that does make it easier to move him around, yes. Plus he understands English, which some DSL players probably don't.

But I think his skill level and play will still be what dictates where he starts next year, mostly.

Right.

I just meant that potential hurdles regarding residency and the like won't have to ironed out as they are with most kids from Latin America. So if they want to have him spend the winter in Arizona at their development camp they can just go ahead and do it.

Some guy named Tommy Manzella has been signed and assigned to Birmingham. I guess you can never have enough light-hitting middle infielders.

They were actually a bit light on IF depth, if they have the roster spot sure. He's not taking much playing time from anyone important.

Yes, slick fielding shortstop, absolutely no bat. He was the Astros starting shortstop a few years back when they didn't have any shortstops

Manzella played for Charlotte in August of last year.

So, we know he's just an org guy and all, but... I am truly surprised Chris Curley isn't in B-Ham right now. They are playing filler at multiple infield positions now that Semien is gone, they are headed for the playoffs, and Curley leads the Carolina League in a whole host of offensive categories.

I agree. Curley hits, Manzella doesn't. Don't get it.

I wonder if he makes some top 100 lists next year .

He will make a lot of them

Not that it matters, because one has much better stuff than the other, but it's fun to look anyways

Jameson Taillon - 128.1 IP, 128 K, 46 BB, 9 HR, 1.35 WHIP, 3.79 ERA

Erik Johnson - 130 IP, 118 K, 34 BB, 7 HR, 0.97 WHIP, 2.01 ERA

That is 20 G (19 GS) at AA and 3 GS in AAA for Taillon and 14 GS at AA and 8 GS in AAA for Johnson.

I figured he would be but part of my wondering was how many starts would he have to make once he's called up to not be listed as a prospect any more much like the AviGar situation.

I believe they typically use 45 service days. Unofficially, there are only 41 service days left. He could be called up today and still retain rookie and prospect eligibility heading into next season.
