Jake
I don't know if I should be happy or pissed off.
chw42
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 10:15 PM) I don't know if I should be happy or pissed off. And I thought we had the best medical staff in the sport. Nobody was able to tell Paulie that he wouldn't be on the shelf for that long? Jake
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 10:52 PM) And I thought we had the best medical staff in the sport. Nobody was able to tell Paulie that he wouldn't be on the shelf for that long? Well if we take Paulie's word for it, they didn't know how bad it would be until they got in there. The irritating part is that it seems he avoided doing this last offseason basically just because he didn't feel like dealing with it. LittleHurt05
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 10:52 PM) And I thought we had the best medical staff in the sport. Nobody was able to tell Paulie that he wouldn't be on the shelf for that long? Seriously. That may have cost us a playoff spot. From June-September, his highest monthly OPS was .785. Sitting out a few weeks to heal up could have been the difference.
3E8
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 12:17 AM) Well if we take Paulie's word for it, they didn't know how bad it would be until they got in there. The irritating part is that it seems he avoided doing this last offseason basically just because he didn't feel like dealing with it. This. Sounds like our training staff probably gave him a best/worst case scenario. And given his performance the two years prior, the choice was up to Konerko. Before that minor procedure in June: .366/.455/.617 After: .263/.332/.417 He took a bit of a gamble and it seems to have not exactly paid off. Hopefully the wrist is truly healed and won't be any nuisance this season.
Rowand44
Does that mean he's going to be Jesus again?
Balta1701
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 08:15 AM) Does that mean he's going to be Jesus again? If he wants to keep playing another year or two, he's playing for a contract this year, so he'd even have more motivation to start the season off in prime shape. He was talking about retirement at Soxfest last night.

ptatc
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 10:52 PM) And I thought we had the best medical staff in the sport. Nobody was able to tell Paulie that he wouldn't be on the shelf for that long? The problem is as people have said is you don't know until you go in, see it and begin to poke around. He had the minor clean up during the season, however I'm sure they didn't want to do too much. There is a structure in the wrist called the triangle fibrocarttilage complex (TFCC). It is responsible for the stability of the radius and ulna. It transfers the forces from one bone to the other. It is a very important and stable structure. You really don't know how bad it's damaged until you start to work with it. It has multiple layers. I'm not sure if this was what was bothering him but it sounds reasonable. The rehab can be 2 weeks to 6 months based on the extent of the injury. I would bet this was the worry.
