At the end of the day, I would sign Kyle Lohse and not rely on either one of these pitchers, or for that matter, on Danks comeback being a sure thing. Too too many question marks.

Despite what Lohse did last year, I just don't know if he's that good of a pitcher. He's still a 34 year old with a 4.45 career ERA.

I wouldn't sign him. I believe one of these guys will come through because they both seem to be pretty damn good pitchers, plus we'll keep the draft pick.

The thing is, the price of free-agents only goes up. Lohse contract may look pretty good next year even if his ERA is 4+. A top 3 of Sale, Peavy, and Lohse over the next three years is a nice building block.

I don't like the contract it would take for a guy that seems to scream fluke.

The Sox aren't going to ever be at the top end of the free agent pitching market. Lohse is the best pitcher to have (likely) fallen into their price range in some time. It would be smart of them to take advantage of it.

I am not convinced that he would be better than what we could run out there, especially when you consider the loss of a draft pick and say $50 million to get him here.. He was awful to mediocre last time he was in the AL, and is leaving the one place he had success.

The Sox have paid a pretty penny for pitching the last 7 or 8 years. Lohse has an ERA near 5.00 in the AL and is repped by Boras so he won't be a bargain. Career year at 33 with an expiring contract is a huge red flag.

It's unlikely that Danks, Quintana, and Santiago all perform better than Lohse. As far as losing the pick goes, it's a very week draft and signing Lohse means you can deal Floyd.

It's not a guarantee that Lohse outpitches Floyd. And he will most definitely be more expensive.

I think that he hasn't signed already means he'll be a bargain. If the Sox aren't interested in Lohse at this point, I don't see them getting a free-agent SP on a multi-year deal anytime in the near future.

He was terrible in the AL, and was terrible until his last two years in STL. I wouldn't bet on that.

The Sox are never going to pay for free agent pitchers who have a track record of consistently being good because those guys are too expensive.

They signed Peavy, a FA pitcher to a multi year contract a couple of months ago. Paying big money for Lohse is beyond stupid, and if you really think Boras is going to lower his price very much.......you really haven't paid much attention over the years. Lohse on the books making 8 figures is almost guaranteed to be regrettable, probably why teams that throw money around like it is nothing, and teams you have posted are so much better run than the Sox, are staying away.

Peavy never made it to the free agent market. What's "big money" for Lohse?

Giving Lohse a multi-year deal at eight figures per year is going to hang up payroll for 2014 and beyond, while Floyd doesn't.

Lohse at $12M per for 3-4 years doesn't tie up the payroll. If you want a similiar pitcher it's going to cost more in 2014 and beyond

He turned down the one year $13.3 qualifying offer, which if they thought there was any chance he would accept, the Cardinals probably wouldn't have made. So he wants more than that.

It is 10-15% of total payroll wrapped up in a player that has a horrible history in this league, and specifically in this division for something like four years.
