QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 04:30 PM)
Bears were not gonna be able to afford a Albert-type player in all likelihood.

True, but now any team with an LT need and cap space to spend has 1 less option as well...

The only way this "moves the LT's farther down the draft" is if he would have signed with a team drafting below the Bears.

Exactly. If Cutler had the same month and the same result happened for the Bears, and he was given the same contract, most Bears fans would call it a fair deal.

Could happen this year. :drink

You are looking pretty much at Joeckel, Fisher, and Johnson as 1st round tackles, and I still don't see any of them falling past the top half of the 1st. The Bears will have to trade up to get one of them, and beyond those 3, none are really 1st round quality.

"With the 1st pick in the NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select GoSox05 out of the University of Soxtalk."

I used to play a little CB/S in high school for a year. About 15 years ago.

So yeah, I could see that.

Jared Cook a free agent. GIMME.

Probably the most athletic TE in the league. 25 years old.

Very inconsistent player. Someone posted on TalkBears that Titans fans have used words like- bandaid for something better, headcase, inconsistent, etc- to describe him. For $5m/year, no thank you.

With a Tillman and Marshall extension + the cutting of Hester, Spaeth and Davis, signing Albert would've definitely been possible.

Very intriguing. Is there room for a guy who was almost franchised under the Bears cap?

Depends. They owe Kellen Davis something like $3 million+ this year. Remove him and that could free up enough money for a TE upgrade.

And let's be honest, there's always another trick to pull to move money around to get under the cap, and the Bears haven't been forced to do those yet since they were under the cap coming in to the offseason (teams like the Jets, Cowboys had to do the bloodbath to get under the cap already, that deadline is next week).
